Selling Photographs - need advice

My brother's father in law is a superb photographer from China. His work is stunning: really traditional Chinese scenes captured in a way that puts House of Flying Daggers or Crouching Tiger almost to shame. He is not precious about it and doesn't care if it is used to sell viagra. In fact he usually gives his work away for nothing to people anyway.

I was thinking of perhaps approaching a few stock libraries or something, but hadn't really done much with it. Does anyone have any suggestions for how this guy can profit from the work he already does and loves?

Has he got a website, I'd quite like to see them?

(If he hasn't that would probably be a good idea too - then he can sell directly from that)

Quite an interesting site until you get to the bit about credits - that sounds pretty dodgy to me.

Any ideas why they don't just use real money?

A web site will probably be in the offing quite soon but I want to know how to pitch it before I write and build it. I need to know what distribution channels I should be looking at, and what target audiences are best to go for.

Not sure about the credits thing - it's possibly because the images are sold in Euro's ?

It was recommended in one of my art magazines as a good site to use, and I have since bought and sold photo's on there and without problems.

I would say designers are going to be the biggest audience, as they use stock images the most.

There is lot of websites where you can upload the photos and when some body buy them you just pay commission (ebay like).

I am waiting for the pix to get sent over from Hong Kong. Taking a while cos he has given lots of the pictures away to friends and family

Unfortunately he doesn't use a digi camera and a good part of the creative work is done at the development stage (blending images together and using old-fashioned development tricks to get effects). Plus he uses a camera that probably went out of fashion when Mao kicked the bucket!

As soon as I get some I will stick them online for you all to see.
