Hi,

I specialise in sales and marketing and I am looking for a couple of businesses that I can help that may be struggling in this area.

I am open to all types of offer and will always outline what I plan to do before we agree any payment for my time and expertise.

However it is quite difficult to find businesses such as these, does anyone have any ideas as to where I could discover these opportunities.

Go commission only. Businesses will fall over themselves to employ you but I can't guarantee you'll get many serious offers. Most will want you to take on all the risk of their sales solution but not pay accordingly.

Yea I know what you mean, to be honest I would'nt mind doing commssion only as long as there was a budget in place for me to actually be able to create some opportunities and expenses obviously

You won't find many people will take you seriously if you claim to know about marketing yet struggle to find work for yourself.

Well being a successful commission only rep' depends on your circumstances. Most sales rep's and firms don't like it because it is too risky and you're essentially taking all the risk onto your own shoulders without any immediate benefit i.e. you could work for three months to build up a really good pipeline only for the client to pull the plug as they haven't seen many results.

Managing to support yourself financially whilst you build that financial base to operate from can be quite difficult but if you can do it then the financial rewards are much greater.

Not really, I am looking for a particular kind of role where its not so much about the money but more for the position, I currently work full time looking after a portfolio with a value of over £1.5m.

I am looking for a role either with a company that needs to take the next step in building a sales & marketing team or a start up where they need that help right away.

I don't think you really understood my point. Anyone who actually has a good grasp on marketing will never be short of whatever type of work they choose to do.

Anyway, best of luck with your search.

Curtis the point Stretchy was making was that if you claim to be an expert in marketing a company's services to other companies i.e. you find clients for them in order to make money for them it is not a very good advertisement that you're unable to do for yourself that which you claim to be able to do for others.

To put it another way it would be like me selling myself as a supplier of superior quality sand to the building trade then coming on this forum and asking anyone if they could supply me with superior quality sand as I have no idea where to get it from.

I also don't understand Captain's post :D

I understand what you are saying, however 75% of marketing is sourcing the clients, Meaning if you do not know where to find them, you know where to go to find them.

Thats like saying you should never invent something if you do not know how to sell it. If you do not know how to sell it as long as you get it sold, either by hiring someone to do it for you or finding out then really it does not matter.

Not really. You're advertising your ability to get customers for other firms but on here you're asking how you would get customers for yourself. To continue your analogy it would be like being an inventor who has to ask how to invent things whilst at the same time trying to sell your services as an inventor.

I'm not saying I agree with Stretchy, just that I'm explaining the point he is trying to make. Personally I think there is a difference between getting clients for yourself and getting clients for other people.

I agree to a certain extent, but I am not looking for customers, I am not a business. I am a looking for businesses that would like to pay me for doing a job for them.

However it is quite difficult to find businesses such as these, does anyone have any ideas as to where I could discover these opportunities.

Most SMEs I deal with struggle with marketing in particular and would welcome someone with a cost effective solution to help them gain more customers. I suggest taking a look at businesses in your local area that you know you can make a difference to and approaching them with a proposition to help make them more successful.

If you're good at what you do, you'll soon attract other work through word of mouth.

Come on, you want to help businesses grow by offering sales and marketing advice but you need advice marketing your own business???

What if a service based business comes to you and says 'I need more clients', what will you do?

What to do? Look at those that are already advertising in the local press/magazines/radio as you know they are prepared/and are already spending money. Then look to offer improving their current response to the marketing they are doing.

Also do a search for <service>+<your town> where service can be 1001 things and look at who's doing google adwords without directing to a specific landing page.

I could go on....but hey you're a business growth advisor after all....

For example.

My one of products is acetic acid, how i can find my buyer in internet.

Usually i use Google to search the "acetic acid buyers/importers", but
not have a good result.

In your local, which website or Search Engines you usually use?

Well there are a number of places that you could turn, to in fact there are some very good websites for specific products that would only appeal to certain businesses, in some cases you will have to pay for your advert however its not that expensive and you do get good leads from these if you are willing to put the time in to stand out. (and your prices are competitive.)

No, not through Yell :)

Profiled data lists identifying them as your target audience would be start ie; industry, number of employees, turnover, net worth, number of years trading, that sort of thing.

Then have a look at their websites to get some clues on what they are already doing.

Maybe some market research so you know what your potential customers are looking for and where they would feel there was most value in your services.

Much better approach that blasting out sales messages that miss your target audience completely.

Surely this is the kind of marketing and sales advice that you would give your clients so I am not sure why it is any different for marketing your own business?

:)

PS It's against Yells terms of service section 10 to use for any kind of marketing purposes including checking, confirming data lists

True but I deal more with products rather than services, I just have no experience in finding the small businesses that I am looking for.

Then to be frank you cannot be a sales and *marketing* specialist. One of the fundamentals of marketing is creating relevant, targeted offers. And this comes about by identifying your target market, another fundamental marketing skill.

Clearly you have not read through the previous posts, I don't understand why people think it is a good idea to post crap like this. Clearly has no experience in marketing or sales, otherwise would understand that you use every available tool at your disposale, this site being one of them.

Please do not waste my time by sending any further rubbish like this, THe post was for pointers not so people could write stuff that makes them feel important when they are clearly not.

Sorry for any offence but if you would have come on saying you wanted help as a newbie then you would get advice. As others have said your original post is an oxymoron, or perhaps I misunderstood?

I am about to introduce a product to sell to the vehicle trade, industrial, commercial and domestic but I do not have enough money to afford to pay a salary and expenses to a salesman who might turn out to be a total wast of time and space, plus all the stupid costly regulations of employing somebody. In consequence I can only afford to use myself and will only sell what I can handle myself. What I will look for is experienced employed salesmen who already go on the road selling into this market and see if any will take on my product as a freelance commission only sideline. I do not see any other way of handling this aspect. My opinion of you is that if you are not skilled enough to attract all the business you need then you are not much good at marketing.
