Hi my name is Gunter lewis one of 2 directors of Elena,s Russian Kitchen ltd , we are a new start up , and looking to import goods, from Russia , starting with fantastic high quality chocolate ,preserves , and a very special natural fruit flavoured honey, something not seen before outside Russia,I have been to Russia many times ,and I am going back in the next to weeks ,to have meetings with suppliers , I have Russian partner/director who is a close friend of mine which is always good to have,my reason for this post is to get some thoughts from anyone who has an opinion on what we are trying to do , and any contacts you think may be useful or opportunities that maybe of interest ,this would be good for us before we make a final choice , my background is 33 years running large supermarkets in the uk ,finally we are able to deal with most type of food stuffs , though at the moment we would only deal with non fresh products for obvious reasons .your thoughts would be appreciated ,we would also be in a position to supply to others

Hello and welcome!
Are you setting up a wholesale operation in the UK? Perhaps you can give us a bit more info so we can form better opinions.
Cheers.

Hi thanks for your comments , at the moment we are thinking of only a couple of commodity groups , targeting Christmas 2016, once we get a feel for the interest or demand for Russian foods we can decided how we should proceed , wholesale is obviously an option depending on demand we would be happy to look at , I have looked at the websites of a couple of shops in London and have found them to be very expensive , this may be due partly to the cost of operating in London , we will be operating out of South Wales , A online store will become available for orders . I am flying to Moscow on Friday for a week ,were I will have a number of meetings with potential supplies , my Russian partner has arrange these for me . Any other comments you have would be appreciated

Best of luck with your plans. When I was there I had a croissant with a sausage in it, which was a particular highlight. If you could find those I'd buy them.

I also had some Russian vodka, totally different to what I have had here, in a good way.

I enjoy trying different foods and if you have an online shop based in South Wales, I would always choose you over a shop based in London.

Hello Gunter!
Are you really going to start import food from Russia?
I ask because I'm working customs specialist for JSC Russian Product. This company produce groceries like oat flakes, dry soups, crisps.
I know how it difficult to importing through Russian customs. I hope you have idea how you will do that through UK customs? If you will need help don't hesitate to ask me - I could do something for free because I need to practice my English.
