Rewrite using .htaccess

I'm struggling with this

I want
http://example.com/deeperlink/link

to redirect to
http://www.example.com/deeperlink/link

But my code sends me here:
http://www.example.com/

My code is

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\. [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [R=301,L]

Actually I think my above code works

#301 to change deadgoodundies.com to www.deadgoodundies.com
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^deadgoodundies.com

My site is duplicated on https: it's a magento thing.

I want my https urls to redirect to http with a few exceptions /checkout/ and /customer/ anybody any idea?
