Renting out a food trailer

Hello, I'm exploring the possibility of purchasing a food trailer to then let out to businesses. For clarity, I'm absolutely awful in the kitchen so would never consider running a food business myself, but I like the idea of offering the facility to others who may not be in a position to buy their own out right, or who are testing a concept etc.

What I'm struggling to understand, what my research hasn't told me thus far is, how viable is this in terms of demand? Do the majority own their own facilities?

I have come across a few companies offering this service and I'll continue my research in the meantime, but if anyone has any experience, opinions, or resources they can point me towards then I'd be really appreciative.

Many thanks in advance 🙂

Not sure it is viable as each business will have different needs. Some will want to flip burgers, some sell coffee or G&T, others sell kebabs or thai or chinese or whatever. Last week we got fish and chips from a mobile van.

Also, some want a trailer others a van. Some will use a generator, some gas only.

There are just too many variables for this to work.

What is your starting point here? What led to this idea? That may give some clues to whether/how you can make a business out of it.

It is by it's nature a highly seasonal business, if you can find your customer base you can expect o be very busy for 2 full months, and patchy the rest of the year.

Also, if you're dealing with experimental start-ups, you'll want to be extremely hot on payment terms and T & Cs.

It can be a good idea/business, however, unless you have money to invest that you are prepared to lose, I would focus on growing your core business.

One trailer might make you a few pounds a month, however, you need to weigh up the risks.

I’d also imagine insurance would be prohibitively expensive.

It is all possible, but unless you wanted to build a business in trailer rental, it just seems a little random!
