Hi,
I have a strong natural link to a short blog post and it ranks well for few phrases but the search volume is low. And i could easily incorporate that post into a longer post, the two topics are highly relevant, so if i do that and a redirect would it be okay and help ranking the longer post for the more competitive more searched for terms?
for example: mysite/ranking-factors redirect and incorporate it into mysite/seo

Thanks

The idea of long tail funnels is not that you build the funnel and then fold it in on itself via 301 redirects.

The idea is that you make a lot of these highly valuable posts and then link them to the short tail key pages which you're trying to push up the rankings, using either NAV links in the main/side nav, or you embed calls to action/contextual links within the body of the content, making sure not to use a ton of keyword rich anchors that get yourself penalised.

In short, aim for an ever expanding body of content that addresses a need, is remarkable and that interlinks to other valuable content within your site (as well as externals that are highly trusted/relevant).
