Reclaiming Statutory Sick pay

Hi all,

I have read that employers can't reclaim SSP from hmrc anymore. ABC company has internal policy of paying full salary for off sick days to sick employees. Can an employer reclaim offsick days pay amount calculated, following Hmrc rates while paying full salary as usual for off sick days at the same time to a sick employee. Paying full salary and reclaiming SSP amount from Hmrc, is it right or wrong?

Companies can claim a % of SSP against their monthly PAYE/NIC - it is only SSP and SMP actually paid that can be claimed so not salary or waiting days etc.

Lets suppose gross monthly salary is £1500. 1 week off sick, hmrc SSP figure for 1 week lets suppose £100. Can company pay £1500 gross to employee for the whole month reclaiming £100 from HMRC as SSP paid. No deduction of salary for unpaid days, paying full salary but reclaiming SSP from HMRC for 1 week.

You can't reclaim sick pay from HMRC, it was abolished a good few years ago now.

So, whatever you pay depends entirely on the contract of employment and the employer generosity.

The only statutory pay you can reclaim is maternity/paternity/adoption, etc. Reclaiming SSP by any employer stopped some time back.

I agree, you cannot claim SSP back unfortunately. It stopped in 2014 I believe.
