"Read-only" access to bank records?

Situation that has become a bigger problem with recent trading, and I cannot find an obvious solution though I am sure we are not the only business with this requirement :

Notification or visibility to staff of payments received from customers.

This will allow staff to determine if a CoD or advance-payment customer has paid, and therefore schedule delivery. Currently only 1 person has direct access to bank account records, and this is an obstacle to smooth order processing.

My simple (as in simpleton?) expectation is that there is a way to allow staff to see bank records in real time, but not make any payments out of the account. I have asked our current bank NatWest if they can do this, and they seem bamboozled.

These customers are typically trade; we have a Web shop for retail and tracking payments through that is much less of a problem. We could implement a trade Web shop but that will take time and money, and will still only be a partial solution.

Any advice on possible solutions please?

Can this not be done through your accountancy system ie staff can see which invoice have been paid. It might be possible to only give them access to certain functions within the system just a thought

Probably could through Sage, but need it in real time though - Sage here is not linked to bank account directly. Might look further into this though.

My son uses Xero all linked up to bank (and accountant) so I can jump on any time and see where he's at. Quite interesting to see which customers have viewed their invoices and obviously shows as soon as they have paid

Can you also make payments out of his account?

You would generally think fathers and sons would have a level of implicit mutual trust - unless you had read Sophocles...

Great and rare question Noah!
We are building exactly that feature in GoSolo, but it will only be releasing it by end of the summer. We were also planning it to be used by external accountants to give them direct access to accounts and prepare payments to be later authorised by the director/owner.
Please DM me - would love to chat to understand your use case in details and perhaps adjust our roadmap.
