Re-platforming from Magento to Shopify

Shopify do get indexed well enough and if you have a proper working strategy in place ranking should not be an issue.

I have 1500 + products and Shopify handles it very well. Loading times are good and you got many options for SEO on page which includes collections and pages that do show up in Google too.

This means the basic navigation which is another point to do on page SEO on.

If you are serious about your shop Shopify is the way to go and Google has no problem.

Thanks but does not help me make an educated decision, do I lie in my bed and wait or bite the bullet and revert back???

Not sure I'd bother reverting back now. You need to recover the rankings via Shopify.

I've done the same thing over the last week or so. Switched from Opencart to Shopify and kinda wish I hadn't. There are some nice features and integrations on Shopify but my store has over 1,000 products with lots of variations and options. By moving, I've completely messed up, as I didn't realise that Shopify requires lots of additional apps to make it do the basics. Multiple product options? Yeah, you'll need another app for that....in Opencart it's free out of the box.

I'm ploughing ahead with Shopify though. I've lost a lot of organic visibility but going back to the previous platform would just cause complete confusion. Google has already crawled and started indexing my site, I don't want to create additional 404s or use any more 301 redirects.

I think you'll need to review which pages/products have seen the biggest drops from the top positions. Then do some work on page and link building around the new pages. In my experience, 301 redirects don't pull all the link juice through, no matter what anyone says. So you have to then do some building work on the new site to start recovering those golden positions. You've probably only got around 75% of the original link quality from the old site, so your site will take a long time to recover fully, without some pushing.

To be fair. I don't think it matters that it was Shopify, if you'd moved to any other platform, the same thing was likely to happen.

Don't agree with this at all, we have seen major improvements moving from "build your own" type website, gaining page 1 results in very little time, while in fact not even touching any part of the content, same text/content and vastly improved results naturally

"We were extremely impressed with the finished site and even happier when we appeared organically on page 1 on Google for the main search terms for our business and we are now receiving daily enquiries because of it"

Avoid both Magento and Shopify like the plague. WooCommerce is the best. It's open-source, and FREE.

Message me if you need more info. I have run a successful e-commerce site for the last 6 years on WooCommerce and it is a LOT better than anything else

But why avoid them?

I'm sure there will be plenty of people who run successful Magento and Shopify sites.

Hi there,

Looking for some advice/first hand experience of people that may have re-platformed to Shopify from another platform. I'm mainly interested with SEO impact on the websites that have moved because Shopify doesn't have a standard URL structure.

Our website is hevily reliant on SEO for traffic as we work in a sector where PPC isn't available.

We've had meetings with Shopify but they are very blasé with there opinion on how it will affect ranking over the short / mid / long term.

If anyone has any first hand experience it would be welcomed.

Just to follow up on this it look slike you decided to go with Shopify in the end, from what I can see your on Shopify Plus. Can you tell us how thats working out for you?

Shopify has everything you need to successfully promote a store: cool built-in statistics, the ability to connect external services to collect it, work with SEO at all levels and a lot of marketing applications that will help to lure, return and in every possible way handle potential and loyal customers.
Pros of Shopif:

Support for many modern technologies like AR (augmented reality), Google Pay, sales through social networks and other useful things;
Availability of high-quality corporate mobile application - Shopify Ping;
Good templates, convenient design customization;
Powerful analytical and marketing tools;
Built rich application store;
Shopify Academy - free courses for entrepreneurs (in English).
Cons Shopif:

The control panel does not support the Russian language;
Much of the application is useless for the store within the Runet;
The high cost of tariffs, paid templates and applications;
The service is not friendly with our social networks, 1C and other things that are useful to us;
Commission is charged when making sales.
