Hi, my 14 year old son is very crafty and loves making things with the Cricut cutting machine, he wants to make football crest shadow box frames, I.E put an Arsenal badge in the box frame and then sell them, is this allowed or does he need permission from football clubs to use their badge?

Some of these football clubs are VERY aggressive when it comes to protecting their brand.

Why not get your son to contact a few clubs & find out what clubs would be open to having their brand used in such a way & on what terms. After all, every experience is a learning experience.

The short answer is no, unless you have the club's permission, and YOU probably will have to pay royalties. I say YOU as at 14 he cannot enter into a business contract.

I'd suggest if you're comfortable with your son on TikTok, he can use his creativity to create football logos! I wouldn't start with creating logos from football clubs as you need permission. Perhaps he can start with creating fake football club logos or something else, and he even might get permission from clubs to design or redesign their logo if he builds a great page! I've seen a couple of clubs on TikTok and Instagram engaging with content like this.
