Question for Salaried Employees

When I worked for my local council they always used to pay salaried staff round about the 20th December to help with Xmas expenses. It was stopped as part of an economy drive a good few years ago, with the justification that employees were more likely to have access to credit than might have been the case many years earlier.

One of my prior employers pulled the same thing after years of paying us before Christmas.

The reason was the additional admin of moving the date was costing too much.

I've not been in salaried employment for a couple of years but all of my last 3 employers over the last 15 years paid me on the 20th of the month every month, so no changes in December, I was under the impression this was becoming the norm these days, but evidently not judging by the previous comments.

Previous salary was 15th each month so no change in December. When it was last day of the month, a long time ao, it always changed to 1 week before Christmas.

Paid on 20th (or thereabouts). We're closed between Christmas and New Year. Everyone gets a bonus in the December pay, so we want to make sure they have it for the holiday.

Most Employers tend to pay the December Salary around a week or so before Christmas around the 15th - 20th of the month to allow for last minute Christmas shopping!
