It’s hard to believe it’s only been 10 weeks since I bought these forums back after selling them back in 2007, but then again it does also feel like an eternity ago!
I’ve tried to be as active as I can on the forums, helping where I can and also getting to understand and know some of you who have joined and contributed in the years since 2007 and it’s also been great to meet some members again from my original time running UKBF in it’s founding years. I’m always open to listening to feedback and suggestions, and the best place to have that discussion is in the Feedback Forum. You can also reach out to my colleague Wendy and also the Moderators who play a vital role in helping run these forums top which I’m thankful. You can access the list of Staff & Moderators here.
Behind the scenes my colleagues and I have been doing a fair amount of work transitioning UKBF into a position where we can start working on taking the site and what they stand for onwards into the future, and every decision made is always based around two principles.
One of the core things I always supported back in the early days was encouraging members to work together, and this is why when we published the updated guidance and rules for UKBF the rule restricting replies along the lines of “That is what I do” was relaxed. We simply state in the guidance add value to the post by answering the question first, then by all means mention your business and offer your services. Previously it was not allowed to state you provided the service.
Tied in with that change we’re going to make changes to the business directory and make much more use of your member profile. This is why I’m asking everyone to check your Profile, and make sure your contact preferences, your business information (including website, socials, email, etc) are all up to date. These will eventually become your business listing on UK Business Forums, and will replace the current business directory. UKBF is a place of business and it’s important to me that they promote your business and generate income for you. We will be doing what we can to drive people to your business, promoting what you do, and your profile information will be what we’ll be using to do that.
Within your Profile you’ll also see two new questions (you’ll also note several have been removed too) which ask if you’d like to be featured in a UK Business in Focus, and also whether you would like to contribute to the UKBF Stories when they get revamped. I’m looking for some people who would like their business to be shouted about across our Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc, and also in our soon to start-up again Newsletter. The bottom line is I want to shout about and do what we can to raise everyone’s profile here who is a valued and contributing member of UKBF, so on your Profile if you would like us to do that let me know.
Finally, obviously you’ll only see the benefit of all this activity if you take part. The first part is actually taking part, it’s also ensuring your profile is up to date, and then of course make sure you;
There are going to be many changes coming over the future weeks, months and even years, but the underlying principles will always be that UKBF is to be a supporting and welcoming community for the members start and grow their businesses.
