Would it be possible to have a preference setting such that you could filter out or have flagged that a thread you are reading may originate from many months’ ago?

That would be very useful. @Ozzy and @Ethan39 - maybe show the date a thread began.

In theory, this wouldn't be too difficult to add. My primary concern is where we would add this date.

Every post on the system shows the date and time that it was created. So if you look at the first post in any thread then this information is already available to you. Because of this, I'd be loath to add the "Thread start date" to the top of each page.

However, if we were to add this to a sidebar or some floating element that always showed as you scrolled, this would likely annoy most of our members.

I'll throw this one over to our development team to ponder, but if you have any feedback on where you'd find this information most helpful, I'd be happy to pass this on to them.

Appreciate that you would not want the message intrusive. As your development team have found a way to put a message on the posting message screen advising to be aware a question was asked by a newcomer, wouldn't that be an ideal place, e.g. "Please note thread was started over 30 days ago"?
You could determine the period without user preference.

Isn't there a little bit of help in the top right of the post i.e. the date/time of the last post?

When you look at the recent posts feed all you see is the date of the last post. Click on this and you are taken to the last post. You have you scroll up to the top or back to page one to see when the thread started.

Which is why we get old threads resurrected and not noticed.
