Pre-Authorisation Process for Hiring Companies

Hi,

I wanted to know if any kind of hire company can set up Pre-Authorisation Credit/Debit card payments to use instead of a deposit.

I've heard that only Car Hire companies or Hotels can do this, but I would like to know for certain if this is the case.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

The pre-authorisation has traditionally been used by the companies you've mentioned but you can ask your credit/debit card payment provided to include this feature in your plan. You should speak to them directly about that.

I've talked to the bank and card payments provider people. They have both advised that we should take a deposit against the hired goods, then refund once the goods have been returned safely.

They also told me that it's only Car Hire and Hotels that can use pre-authorisation and that it's something that is going to be phased out as it causes a lot of problems with customers.

Not sure how true this statement from the bank/card people is, but there you go. I thought I would share.
