Hi Friends,

Yesterday on 2nd August Google Roll out Page Rank Update. Please check your site or blog.
 
Yep outadwords.com up to 2/10 not bad for a 6 month old site. Don't think any others have moved but not checked them all. I always like to see page rank rise, unlike some people I see it as a good benefit.

PR will always be of some value in Google's eyes. The end of the day if they see it as not important then they would of took it out of their ranking system. You look at site now with the updates we have had recently and it has a high PR then its a trusted site that's doing correct SEO, so PR is something we should be looking at still.

Well if it's a classifieds site Google has taken a dislike to them with regard listing positions. Personally I think they have done some sneaky deal with Ebay and others. Seeing loads more ebay links popping up in Google this year.

Not sure what insight PR provides these days...

However an interesting observation - both our Agency website & our eCommerce testbed website have hardly any backlinks, only social engagement (Google+, FB, Twitter & LinkedIn), they are now PR2 sites, both are 6 months old...

That might tell you how pointless PR is or it might say something about how Google now calculate PR...

You hit the nail on the head with how Google has changed how it values PR, plus are you updating the site regularly with content?

Have you read the update details from the site and can you tell us what essentials are to be kept for increasing the PR or any other important stuff from the update.:|

I fail to see the significance of page rank. Our site is 5 years old, ranks 1 or 2 with Google for our key phrases, and the page that ranks best has a page rank of only 2. And that's for competitive key words. Another site I run dominates the first page of Google for a host of related key words and no page on the site has a page rank above 2.

I wouldn't be surprised if page rank only has an impact on sites that YOU link to, and none at all for your own site - in which case, who cares?

You don't think the people, on seeing google rate a site high or low make a judgement ? some don't perhaps most but some do so high PR can only be good.

Also, I personally sell advertising to a few agents based on page rank. So yes perhaps it's best for others linking to your site and that's positive too.

Page rank plays a large part in trust. Trust plays a large part in ranking, in fact all the kickings recently with regard penguin have been as a result of a loss of trust (as stated recently by Google on one of their blogs). Pagerank is important but it is not the most important element.

Many people think a higher pageRank = higher rankings, when that is not the reality. There is no direct link between PR & Ranking as many other factors can overtake.

e.g. Google uses a base 5 sliding scale algo, this means a PR2 on a completely trusted site can boost the 250 interlinked elements resulting in an overall higher ranking in the results. a PR4 with a less trusted site, may well boost the other elements, but the trust level is such that the 'boost' is reduced.

This ties up with Ali's thread and post about on page SEO needing to be good as a foundation for boosting your other activity.

Yes,Google has updated page rank for websites. But, Increasing your Page rank does not Guarantee increased search results as there are hundreds of factors used to calculate search results.

The last update we had to the Google Toolbar PageRank was in May 2012, about three months ago, which is typically how often Google will push out a toolbar PageRank update to the public.
New domain was unranked.They Get 1 pr so its good news.
