I received a letter from HSBC regarding a failed application to open a bank account that wasn't made by me. The name on the letter is not mine, the account name is correct but the address is wrong and is actually that of my other company. It's obvious a fraudulent attempt.

40 minutes later, 2 phone call's, 3 departments and I cannot for the life of me get the message across!:eek::eek::eek::eek:

During the conversations the undertone was such that I feared we'd have to go through a process of resetting passwords, proving that we weren't connected to the person applying for the new account and losing online banking for however long it would take to sort.

I'm going old school and paying the nearest branch a visit, letter in hand to cover my back.

The good thing was once Barclays admitted they had started the process to set up a credit card that wasn't instigated by me - they paid for 3 years of Experian premium (and i wasn't even a customer). See if you can swing similar from HSBC
