Payroll - New Starter (mid month)

Hi, we are a small company who have had a new employee start with us on 07/10/19.

This person works 24 hours per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) and is on a rate of £14 / hour.

I am trying to work out what to pay for October. If I do the following

Annual salary (17,472) divided by 12 months, £1,456, divided by no of days in October, then times this figure by the number of days worked. I am unsure whether this would be £49.96 x 25 = £1,174.19.

Are they on an annual salary or hourly rate? If they are on an hourly rate (which you appear to say they are) it is 12 days x 8 hours x £14 per hour = £1,344

If they had worked from 1 October - would you have paid them the £1,456 (1/12 of £17,472), or 15 days x 8 hours x £14 = 1,680?

From 1st October it would have been 15 days x 8 hours - you're right. Thank you.
