Hi

I am having issues gettng a Merchant Account but I sell well on Ebay and have had no issues with Paypal.

If I was to apply for a Paypal Merchant account will they be kind as I have a good history or is it all 'Credt History' Related?

Is it pretty straight forward for a newbie like me in short?

As long as you have a Paypal business account there aren't any issues with accepting cards through paypal on your own site if that's what you are after. Getting a business account is straightforward and you just need to confirm extra details like your identity and if you are a company extra docs like your incorporation certificate.

I don't actually have a business account, it is a personal account.

So I just apply for a business account as normal and then I should get a merchant account?

I am based in the UK, and I have not registered my business if that helps.

When you say you are having issues getting a Merchant account, can you elaborate a little more ?

Are you trading at least £ 500 PCM through your ebay shop currently ? and are you looking to go for a full ecommerce web shop as well as, or instead of your ebay operation ? What are you selling ?

Finally A Merchant account is not the same as a Business account and getting a Business account will not automatically mean you will be approved for a merchant account, just a word of caution..

I have a CCJ which hampers me to say the least BUT i do have a business partner who is willing to take ownership of it solely if it helps.

At present I am not at the 500 pcm mark. I sell at shows so it is mostly cash but I am looking at wholesaling thus the need for a merchant account.

I already use Paypal to sell through a website and on ebay.

I thought my best chance of getting a good Merchant was Paypal

But yesterday I opened a Stripe account and it seems I can take payments there now, I may just need to do a couple of tests first
