Outsource manufacturing

Afternoon all,

I have a quick query perhaps someone on here can help me with. I'm interested in outsourcing manufacturing of my goods overseas. Aside from the obvious, China, what other countries can produce on a similar cost/scale?

I'm aware that it probably wouldn't be as cheap but I'd like to consider all options before deciding.

Thanks in advance.

Ez.

Some things are cheaper here: printing for a start. Recently someone asked for quotes here for printing 15,000 stickers and out of interest I got a quote form China as well and it was double the cheapest UK price (plus all the shipping costs etc). Its often a lot cheaper here if you want to manufacture at small scale (small volumes i mean). I recently looked into getting a board game made and again up to about 10,000 units it was cheaper in the UK. The key thing will be tooling: if you need elaborate injection moulds made then its probably best to do it in China (but keep as much of the R&D in the UK!). What kind of product is it?

Hello all,

Many thanks for the replies. Apologies for not responding to you all sooner. Work being what it is and all...

Regarding the product, It's nothing big or complicated to manufacture. It's just an aftermarket Universal remote control. I have a few design ideas that I'm interested in having mass produced. I'm keeping all the product development process in the UK and just outsourcing production, provided it's more cost effective, overseas.

China would be the logical choice but I thought I'd explore all options nearer to home. Romania was a good shout Taylorn. I'll definitely look into it a bit more so thanks for that.

If you can, keep the suggestions coming guys!

Thanks,

Ez.

Ez,

as it is electronics, Turkey may also be a good place, as well as Hungary and Slovenia.

However, China will probably be quite a few % cheaper, even taking into consideration shipping and duty etc.

There are also a number of established URC manyfacturers you can work with, who can bring the advantage of a global market to you in one fail swoop!

Hi Consultant,

Thanks for the reply. With regards to the bolded part, above, what sort of advantages are you referring to?

The advantage is that they could be supplying to several large customers in different territories and may be able to open doors for you in getting additional sales!
