notsure

Hi All,

I am thinking of having my own store online, and not sure which system to use. I am hoping to connect the store to the (bank payment system) so the payment system will need to be secure. any suggestions please? or recommendations?

your help is highly appreciated.

Hello there,

It might help a little if you're elaborate on what you're planning to sell? In addition, if you want to credit card payment directly on the site, you will need t look into a merchant account with your bank.

We do have an offer running at the moment on our eCommerce solution for UKBF members here:

Please do get in touch directly though if you have any questions :)

Thanks for the quick reply. I will certainly check this out and discuss with my partner. I guess I need to decide if we are choose unix servers or windows ones.

we will be selling gifts.. and i am looking for the whole system.. where you upload the products and add content under each product + prices + images etc etc. Then a secure transaction system within.

we write complete ecommerce solutions and have template systems that could be used for gifts. Take a look at washcompany . com and see if that is the kind of thing you might like to achieve. If it is then we may be able to help you.

This system is linked to Protx for payments which offers a pretty low cost for up to 1000 transactions a month.

OK well the decision on the hosting platform is, in my mind anyway, not as critical as the software itself as it's the application which is important as opposed to the platform.

From what you've said with regards to the items you wish to sell, the OMC system will handle this perfectly. I think the gallery feature allowing you to upload unlimited product images will be especially useful for you...

I would also say that protx is a great service.

As for shopping cart software. There are two routes, a hosted service or get some software on your own host.

If you are unsure about php (or asp) and HTML I would go for a hosted service. But don't skimp on price.

If you have a working knowledge of php and an excellent knowledge of HTML I would go for a package like
CubeCart (free)
or
X Cart (about £100)
But again - don't skimp on time and money making these sites yours.
There are some excellent examples of these pieces of software being used to their fullest using customised templates and scripts, but there are a lot of 'default templates' that are dull and who wants their site to look like hundreds of others anyway.

X-Cart is very good and optimized for search engines as well, you have plenty of themes available to to buy as well. They have developed quite few extra modules (addons) to suite your requirement but not free though;

visit http://www.x-cart.com/

Good Luck

If you want to go hosted and have a nice, simple store I have one available at bizbla.com - it is a webmasters website, if you go to "Premium Sites" there is an "EZStore" script.
It is not free, but it can come in a fully installed and hosted package etc. I may be able to get you a discount if you are interested.

If you want to own your own package and be independent of hosts then I would recommend Litecommerce. It is the little brother of xcart and made by the same people. It is much easier to use and has a lot of the rough edges removed. It is cheaper but less flexible.
