Not original but is it worthwhile

Hi All,

So I had a realisation yesterday that I really enjoy something and that I could possibly make some extra income out of it. What i would like to do is make handmade coils which are used as heating elements for advanced tanks for e-cigarettes. I find it sort of like an art in a sense and is extremely therapeutic and relaxing which is why it would be a pleasure to do outside of working hours. So my question would be if it is worthwhile? Electronics are advancing so fast that I am not really sure if it is worth it, however I do believe that handmade items in general give a feeling of craftsmanship which is quite desirable by people that are highly dedicated and are into a specific hobby.

Any thoughts and suggestions are welcome!

Thanks in advance guys. :)

I would imagine that the people who are after handmade coils are already using RBA's and making their own coils.

I am not sure I can see where the money is here, to be honest.

What is the profile of your ideal client? That may shed some light.

I don't know about advanced tanks etc but I have just checked one of the wholesale sites and I can get a basic coil in a blister pack for 34p each plus VAT and delivery. Not much money to be made unless you can make several thousand an hour for less than a penny each

I would think there would be a market, but no idea the size.

If you took into account their equipment, how many watts they like to run at, etc, you could provide a set of custom coils uniquely designed for their needs, which makes them somewhat unique.

Wrap a bit of branded packaging around it and you could possibly carve out a niche.

I tend to think it's a bit like making flies for fishermen. There's some demand, but as to whether you can make any money at it is quite another question.

To me this is like a smoker who makes his own saying a roll up is hand made by an artisan craftsman.

I deleted that from my original post as it's blunt....but i can't think of another way to put it so here it is.

Hate to mention this to you, but hand rolled cigars (supposedly on the thighs of virgins) command a great premium in the smoking community.

The part in parens was a bit of humour, but the rest is deadly serious smoking factoids.

The insurance costs may be high.
If you like doing it and want to use them yourself then fine, its when you potentially have other people at risk that you can develop problems.
Even mass produced heating elements can have problems. Setting clothing alight.
