Hi All, I have set-up a website for a friend who runs a security alarm business. After around 6 weeks he is getting on average around 10-15 uniques per day.

I have checked google analytics and webmaster tools and we are getting SERP traffic for the keywords we are targeting.

I have put his phone number and physical address in the header; he has also dedicated a specific phone number so he can track leads. yet we still have not had a single phone call/lead, can anyolne provide any advice on what i might be doing wrong? How come none of these visitors are phoning for a quote?

All advice greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!!

Thanks for responding. In terms of online advertising, we have done article marketing, submitting to social bookmarking sites, craiglists ads and also forum marketing (via signature link). We have had over 300 uniques in 6 weeks (not a lot I know, but a start) and are ranked #13 in google for one of our target keywords.

With regards the comment that we need 100-150 hits per day, that may be true for typical info product sales, where conversions are around 1%; this website is a blog, and there is no copy as such to sell anything. we are trying to build trust so that people looking for a house alarm system will contact us.

I hope that clarifes and once again I appreciate you taking the time to respond and offer advice.

I think it takes time to build a brand online, keep driving traffic to your website and the number of unique visitors will increase, once you get to 100 visitors a day then should look at conversion rates as I feel you don't have enough information to be discuss information rates, if you are getting 10 to 15 visitors a day.
I do also feel you are doing well after 6 weeks you are getting that amount of unique visitors on a daily visitor, just keep driving traffic traffic to your website using the methods you mentioned, as it will increase traffic and conversion rates.

10 to 15 uniques a day is nothing rayazsiddiqi. You really need 100 to 150 before you can start discussing why conversions are failing.

I'd question that - if OP looks at his visitor stats GA etc he should see the type of visitors he's getting ie those that have searched with a specific term quoting his locality, if he's getting these types of visits and no phone calls then there may well be something wrong and 15 visits a day of this type would be enough to give some clues? eg if he trades from Plymouth and on his stats for Friday theres 8 searches "security alarms plymouth"

.

Its not clear if you are targeting local enquiries, If you are, none of the above is likely to produce orders although it would produce the visits. If local, the only things that work well are google maps, google organic listings (high on page one) and PPC (well thats what I've found anyway)

"done article" should be "done some articles" or "done an article" It may just be a typo, but if you are trying to build trust and the site has typos - it will have the opposite effect.

Also do you suggest at the bottom that they should contact you? If you don't, they may not make the mental leap. Is the contact number at the top of the page on every page? Sounds silly, but you really have to spoon feed for these things to work well.

I'm not really sure what is so good about crazyegg.... having looked at it, it seems to me that there is nothing (apart from some pretty colours) that you cannot get from google analytics for free on every page of your web site...

type google analytics into google, you just need to include their code each web page, which normally means including it into your master page (the page that gives all you pages a coherent style). Its not difficult to do and is totally free.

Create an irresistible "lead magnet". the main purpose of the magnet is to attract your visitors and give them a reason for opting in on your website. free report, white paper, e-book and webinars etc. can be used to both attract and educate your prospect.

I want to thank everyone that gave me advice and help for the website. I have taken this advice and now made a sales page my static home page, with the blog a separate section.

I will monitor the website to see how I get on, I wll need to tweak the sales page if leads still don't come in...in this respect if anyone knows of a reasonable copywriter, I would appreciate some pointers.

Thanks again to all of you who commented!

I used to work in the security industry, and unless you're big like Chubb, then the enquiries will not come to you, and will not flood your inbox!

Security companies either do sales by phone for products, and services like guarding, is sold face to face, I've seen the owners of guarding companies walk into public houses and sell on the spot - but a lot is phone work and getting out there.

But for security products I suggest email, with a phone call follow-up. Expect much rejection, there's a ton of security firms out there, and Chubb ofcourse....

I agree with Andy I think your volume is too low to draw any conclusions on conversion rates. If you want to instantly drive traffic you should consider running some PPC activity.

This really isn't the case.

I built my Dad a website for his painting and decorating business. The website gets 5-15 hits a day and usually results in around 5 leads a week.

Adding a simple 'quick contact' form on the sidebar made a noticeable improvement on conversions too.

Why pay to get 100-150 visitors a day when you can get decent business from the current traffic?

What's your bounce rate on entry pages per Google Analytics? Are visitors getting stuck or lost somewhere? Take a hard look at the analytics as you may find what's causing the lack of conversions.
If the bounce rate is high then it could be your product is either not competitive, not unique (enough), or is being marketed to the wrong (incoming) audience.
