Would someone be so kind to help me understand how to check if a link is ' No Follow ' ?

Andy

Theres a good Firefox add-on called 'NoDoFollow', which highlights all no follow links in red when turned on. Thats what i use anyway. Firefox is great for SEO as theres some really useful add-ons for it.

From Google

Google said:
(No follow) Google does not transfer PageRank or anchor text across these links. Essentially, using nofollow causes us to drop the target links from our overall graph of the web.

As said already, time should not be spent chasing dofollow links only, don't even worry whether a link is nofollow or not. A website's link profile should look natural and healthy, not one that is artificially generated, a nice mix of dofollow and nofollow backlinks, some with keywords in the anchor text, some not and some from pages with PageRank and some from pages without is the sort of link building that will benefit most long term.

Apart from anything else, just because Google states that, doesn't mean it's entirely the case, they can tell you anything they want and people will believe it unless they carry out conclusive experiments to prove otherwise.

Yes Google might say a nofollow link does not pass PageRank or anchor text, but that doesn't mean other search engines don't.

And so what about PageRank and anchor text anyway... It is my strong belief that a nofollow link will still pass relevancy and trust and should the ultimate purpose of the link not be to generate traffic anyway?

I can think of maybe 15 ish types of links - however when link building it is very important that you mix links up so it looks organic - this is very important, also I think to remember when sites/people link to your site (Organically) they won't always use dofollow or your perfect keyword - so it's important when you are link building that you try and build links as organically as possible, never use just 1 keyword, use hundreds and mix and match.

The different types of links I can think of are as follows (please add or correct me etc)

Authority Links
Reciprocal Links
Directory Links
Comments and Profile Links
SiteWide Links
RSS/Blog syndicated links
One way links
3-way Links
4-way links
.Edu and .Gov Links
Radio station, Television, Magazine or Newspaper links
Press Release Links
Article Bio Links
Presell Page Links
Social Media Links

I am sure I have missed some but please feel free to add etc :D
