First of all thanks to everyone who particpated in my other threads, there were some really helpful suggestions regarding this topic, after all the expert and non expert advice it seems to be the general consensus(big word for me) that the cheaper the deal the better when it comes to "flogging" boilers, as its not something that people budget for nor is it a desirable product and everybodys skint.

Therefore i have completely redesigned the ad, any feedback appreciated
the orginal ad (the paid one) can be found here http://www.ukbusinessforums.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=129044

obviously the text size layout will have to be altered to fit the ad, but its just the content which i would like feedback on.

the new ad:)

Surely

"High-Efficiency Vokera Boiler - Save £435"

has to be a better headline.

Cheers,

I was actually thinking about removing the "normal price" line altogether, the reason being that i am a local plumber and i think that if i always have a special offer on, people may see me as a fly by night company looking to make a quick buck.
Also if the ad does well i will want to run it indefinitely, if it is always on special offer people may not take the offer seriously, just by making it a good offer that people spot in the paper week after week will hopefully build up the trust with the readers.

However steve i do see you point of view, that would convert well i think, im just not sure if its the right approach for this offer.

Am i making sense?

A couple of things here. Why not work out a couple of offers and run them for a set period, then switch to the next offer etc.

Another thing and with newspapers this is really crucial, try to get them to place you on the same page in the same place each week. I know that technically you are going to be ROP, (run of paper) Unless you have specified premium positioning, but if you are booking a run, then you can normally get them to place you. Page planner pretty much allows you to do that.

Tell them you want to be on an odd number page, either top right or bottom right. On no account allow them to place you left on on a right hand (odd ) page.

Odd pages give better response, and either top right or bottom right of a RH page will get you the most response in ROP. Having the ad in the same place each week makes it easier for people who noticed it one week to find it the next :).

Oh anbd finally, consider buying the ears on the masthead, as they can get you real good response.

I dont understand:|

Some good tips there, i had booked out page 8 on the left page, bottom left hand corner, i have changed it now as its a bad position.

She has now put with the rest of the advertisers in the home and grden section which is better where abouts exactly i dont know, but i totally agree about being in the same place week after week to build up trust etc.

Sorry, I slipped into tech speak :(

The masthead is the area at the top of the front page where the name of the newspaper title sits 'Daily Chronicle etc. Either side of this is normally a small advert. These are the ears :)

You can use them as a lead such as :-

get a Super dooper
new boiler for only £1550
see our ad on page 7
joebloggs heating

or simply
new boiler fitted
save £400
only £1550
limited stock offer.

What do you think of this james:

The Home and Garden section which is a 2 page spread, there is already an advert in the top right hand corner, the planner said i can rotate between the top right on the right hand page and the top left of the left hand page.

I cant have top right for the remaining 3 months of my agreement with them but i could have the top left, or rotate between top left and top right(weekly basis)

Which would you reccomend?

Im swaying between rotating as it will still always be in the home and garden section which is only 2 pages:)

Some advertisers are obsessed with top right hand slots. For my publications, I'm not convinced it matters that much, but then they are A5, so everything is pretty easy to see when you open the pages. And also with mine there is an advertisers' index so people can locate anything pretty quickly.

Given that this is a newspaper, if you've got the chance to get some exposure on top right and it's not costing you more or loads more, I'd say go for it.

People who insist on top right in my publications can have it, but I charge them more for it - supply and demand and all that.
