Sorry if this is already covered....

We run a micro limited company and are VAT registered. I received a letter a few days back that all VAT returns after 1st April need to be submitted digitally. I thought this is what we were doing anyway...

We do our book keeping on MS Excel 2010 upon which we calculate the VAT returns at the moment. Can we continue to use this or will we need to upgrade to Quick Books or Sage in order to make the digital returns in future?

thanks

Are you voluntarily registered, or trading above the threshold. If the former, then you can carry on as you are. MTD is not mandatory for you. If the latter then, as johndon68 says, grab some bridging software.

Are you required to be registered? Might be easier to deregister. Alternatively freeagent is useful software that looks after this for you. Best get moving though as deadline is fast approaching.

As already mentioned if you have to comply with MTD you can use bridging software, but it might be worth looking at some software to replace your Excel sheets. You certainly aren't restricted to Sage and QuickBooks you have lots of choice. You may well find using some accounting software saves quite a bit of time. It may also save you accountancy fees if you are paying an accountant.
