need your suggestions pls help

hi i have recently done MSC computer security and audit.but unfortunately i don,t have practical experience to start my career. i am worried about as i am stuck in odd job and want to get into marker.any body who is working in IT please give me suggestion how can i start..plzz i am desperate and willing to start from the scratch. i will really appreciate your suggestions.

Contact some local charities and see if they need any help and advice on their IT security, always looks good on your CV.

The way is to start getting experience. I am also an IT professional and had problems getting my first job. I had to work for free in a small company few months.after I'd got the experience I ventured out.

yup i agree with him you should first OJT to practice and enhance your skills and try to read IT books

FEAR - small businesses are tremendously uninformed about security....scare the crap out of your local businesses (flyers / direct marketing / cold calls / jumping out of bushes) about their security...

...I know dozens of small businesses who have lost tens of days of productive work to viruses and computers playing up....all they really want to do is pay someone to make the problem go away...and the more you frighten them...the quicker they will hire you.

Once you've installed anti-virus...they'll be calling you up at £50 per hour to set-up their scanner.

Just be careful about the bloke in the office that knows a thing or two about computers....you need to dazzle him with jargon, then take the CEO to one side, and explain that the informed bloke knows nothing and is actually a complete liability.

Not saying it's ethical...but it is the way most small business IT support companies / freelancers operate....and before anyone says...that's sooooo untrue....well, you're the exception that proves the rule

Where are you based? I have previously worked in IT management and there is always the same issue when selecting graduates i.e. lack of experience. One way to mitigate this in the short term might be to get some real world certifications (CCNA security, CISSP,CEH) as these will demonstrate that you have practically applicable skills to backup you university gained knowledge. I am not affiliated with them but have heard good things about the CCNA courses with commsupport.co.uk and they are crazily cheap

quite simple, go for junior jobs. Your level of ability will be no where good enough for anything else at this time.

With a masters you will stand out from others, especially if you know what you are on about, love technology and dont lie on your cv about your skills! I have a software business with 6 guys, 4 senior devs and 2 juniors so i am speaking form experience of an employer looking for developers.

Get yourself signed up to agencies, most IT companies will use them as that is where all the good guys are! there are loads out there. Not things like monster, it is rusbbish, go to specialist IT consultancies such as cv screen. We used them recently and found a very good chap!

Going it on your own can also work but you will have no money for a long time, it will give you a very limited commercial experience and you will find it even more difficult to get to a senior level.

These are valuable suggestions given here by forum mates. Additionally, you can join couple of freelance forums over the Internet. There you can find number of requirements for short projects. In the meanwhile you can keep trying for a better job. These freelance projects would also add to your CV and increase its weightage and help you earn some extra bucks.
