Hi

I received grant for advertising. £700 that I need to spend in 30 days. I wanted to prepay it to Ad words but they only bill me monthly. Since I'm new to advertising I don't want to spend all 700 in one go.
Is there a place where I can park this money and spend over time, let's say 3 months or so?

I'm advertising e-commerce shop

AdWords can easily become a black hole for your money which wont get much of a return. It can certainly work for you if done right and you're in a position to target marketing qualified customers, the return for someone new could be something like 1%. This is for marketing qualified rather than sales qualified customers since you have to really niche down for it to work, most first time visitors probably wont buy for a while if they ever do . Certainly wouldn't invest all your money in PPC.

SEO for your website generally gets a better return which you can do for free if you follow the right process.

Facebook Ads you can get very granular with who you target, as long as you know really know who you're targeting. You can also post product listings for services too I think (haven't tried it but I assume it includes services).

Building an email list is worth investment. Something like mailchimp is free up to a point. If you don't have an email list then use your website to opt people in with some kind of offer such as a voucher code or a guide. Doesn't have to be major, could just be a few pages of content related to what you're selling. For example if you sell suits it could be a guide on how to pack a suit for travel if that's your kind of customer. Don't know what you sell so that's maybe not a good example, but you hopefully get the idea. You could hire someone to help write or design it for relatively little money from somewhere like fiver or upwork.

Don't know if you have a physical shop or if just online, although any time you sell something ask the customer if they want to be part of your mailing list so they know when new stuff comes in or when things are on offer. There's a lot more you could do too if have a physical shop.

If you want more detailed advice let us know more info about what you're selling. You can PM me if you'd rather keep that confidential and I'll be happy to offer you some advice, a lot of stuff you can do for little or no money.

Why did you apply for an advertising grant, if you hadn't done your research to identify the best channels to use it on.

£700 is small beer when it comes to advertising. Start by going back to your marketing plan to look who you have identified as your target audience and the channels they use. You can then look at what sort of advertising you should be in investing in.

Not sure why @DG web consultancy is talking about FB which doesn't work for b2b or SE0 or mailing lists which isn't advertising.

You raise some good points. Not sure if i explained things well.

My point is to think in terms of overall marketing rather than just advertising, so I was being more general. What I wanted to communicate is that there's things that can be done to integrate advertising into the overall marketing strategy that will help make it more effective.

I must've misunderstood the OP because I don't know what he sells, I thought he is advertising his "e-commerce shop" which could mean anything unless he means he's selling a website.

Facebook PPC is something I see perform well for a print company I work with although for selling an online shop I agree it might not work as well.

Build an email list and keep selling to the same people.
    1. think of a subject where you can offer help relating to your products, so it could be a review and tips
    2. put the review/tips into a document or a video and create a landing page for people to enter in their email address to access your support
    3. do a facebook advert targetting this group of people, make people aware in the initial advert on facebook you are going to help them "get this exciting video worth £25"

You now have people giving your their email address.
These are people who are interested in your product.
    Keep in contact with them.
    Keep selling to them.

I am interested to know why you do not think it will work Major Clanger, I have been doing this for 10 years and get great results and have a lot of long term customers
Because he only has 30 days to spend the money. And building a list isn’t advertising.

So, you want advice on how to circumvent the terms of your grant. You said it has to be spent in 30 days. You want to not spend it in 30, but rather 90.

I'd be surprised if you get a lot of advice from those here who play by the rules...

Spend 200 getting someone to set up the campaigns and then turn it on full tilt so you burn the other 500 in 14 days. A sale is a sale is a sale, whether it's 7 days or 47 days from now. There's no need to slow burn when the whole idea behind this is to get you some cash flow via advertising.
