Hi,

Basically recieved a letter this morning from a local competitor claiming they have an actionable suit agaisnt me for libel.

I am hoping to get some advice and hopefully exchange PM's or emails to chat about this as I am a complete novice.

Thanks
Oliver

*Oliver is this related to the other thread? I would definitely not post any further comments as you are identifiable and not hidden behind a screen name.

You may wish to as general questions on the law of libel on here, but certainly not giving any specific details, views or opinions.

So basically you've criticised a competitors product in order to win business and they have found out about it?

Libel cases would be an expensive affair and quantifying losses as a result of libel very difficult, i'm betting a very large majority of these threats never get anywhere close to a court case.

Few businesses know what libel actually is. They see criticism and automatically think 'hey, that's libel - I'm gonna sue you' (becoz they 'av sawed it on da telly).

Even fewer businesses even know how expensive it is to bring a libel (defamation) claim to court.

There are many bluffers who just scream and shout thinking you'll buckle. Get some (offline) legal advice and take it from there.
