Neither. Both pretty bad.

Stick with something simple: ‘Bob’s computer repairs’

Neither. Try using your own name - it shows that you identify with your business.

Failing that, use the location. Lane, town, whatever.

Definitely go with something related to your own name/ branding, to personally identify your business.

Stick with something simple: ‘Bob’s computer repairs’

But also agree here, something short and simple. So your brand/ name can be easily recognisable.

    Don't like either of them!

Imagine answering a call with either of those names - or having to spell it every time you are giving your email address over the phone! How many e-mails could you miss by someone mistyping!

Suggest keep it simple as others have said.

To me the names come across as someone trying to be too “clever” and that may put some potential customers off.
    Who is your target market?
Joe public won’t know what you do. I would assume you worked on fancy corporate networks and wouldn’t be interested in replacing the cracked screen on my laptop.

I quite like the idea of the name that you have suggested here. It sounds good and it tells the whole story what this business is all about. I hope 007711K likes it.
If you lived in the UK you wouldn’t ever want to use this name.

Hi there, starting a new I.T. business, primarily repairing computers.

    Two potential names:
    - Congruent IT
    - Exponential IT

    Any preferences? Comments?

    Thank you.
Neither, they are meaningless. Someone looking for a computer repair company are likely to ignore you.

Look at your target audience and find out what they are likely to search on.

Congruent is a great word and I believe we should all try to elevate our vocabulary instead of asking others to diminish theirs but I would agree that the connotations of the word choice suggests you are corporate or big business biased. If so, keep the name and have a simplistic logo. If you are looking to attract smaller businesses, maybe try a simpler name which is more descriptive of your services. Good luck whatever you decide.

    I agree with the others.
If you were planning on becoming a big company I would be all for something that shows you are a big company - although I am not sure either of those are really the name.

If you are going to be a local computer repair shop both seem pointless and you would be better with something like 'The computer repair shop - we do exactly what we say on the sign" or *Town* IT repairs.

If I wanted my laptop or phone fixed and I seen Exponential IT, I would think you install computers in offices or set up servers etc. I would not be even looking at bringing my laptop to you.

I do find it frustrating that people ask for your help and then do not seem to respond to any comments. Just me having a morning rant!

    lol Just read that.

I assumed no one replied - I stopped getting notifications from the website after the first two comments. My mistake.

    Great community.

    Massive gratitude for the feedback.

Much more difficult coming up with a name now than 20-yrs ago. You need to also consider the domain name is available and ''AFFORDABLE''! I have had to answer a lot of questions why I named my business yyovvo! Sounds silly to the average person but then when you try to find a name that has already not been taken on all the 10 most prominent social media platforms, a name that has not been registered as a domain, then you start to realise that your options start to dwindle.

Google doesn’t like it. Keeps telling me I should be searching for ovvo.

People over think it. 90% of the time the business name is irrelevant - the name/brand is built on the success of the business, not vice versa.

Always go for a name that's personable or easy to say! You don't have to use your name or location, but it's better to use a name that's linked to who you are, where you are or what you do. You can combine a word you like, that's related to your business, with part of your name. Hope that helps.

I agree with other people about the name maybe being too difficult (I often use two tests with names: will people know how to spell it; and will people be happy saying it as they pick up the phone)

Saying that, however, I think '[first name]'s IT' can sound a little unimpressive. Most local computer shops look incredibly trustworthy, and that is mainly because their premises look like pawn shops and their names sound too dodgy. For some people, their computer may be the most expensive item they own, and if it's a company, it may be the core of their business. Having a more 'proper' brand name might make all the difference.
