Name my mustard business!

Just starting a small hobby business on the side, making organic mustard.

Lots of varieties will be produced.

Having trouble naming it though! Can you suggest something? Free mustard for the name I choose!

To paraphrase one of the Colman dynasty,
"We made our money from what people left on the side of their plates"

As for the OP.Keep it simple. If your name is Smith. " Mr Smith's Organic Mustard "

People I know tried the organic chocolate business.
Called it "Caroline's Orgasmic Organic Chocolate" It wasn't. She went back to being an estate agent.

I'd avoid using the word mustard because it limits your potential for diversification of product without brand dilution should you reach that stage in your evolution.

Stick to an informative name, one which thinks American... well ok that's a contradiction in terms right away but what I mean by that is use the name on the tin principle, in Home Depot we spotted a product called "No More Snakes" and can you guess what it did. Frankly the British public are by the way of natural progression getting to the same level of muppetitis maximus and unfortunately rather quickly... thick as three year old mustard. So keep it nice and really ****ing simple for them. What does the company do? Make natural organic condiments. Are you as famous as Levi Roots or a construct such as Aunt Bessie? Not likely. You need to ask yourself what you want to do and where you'll target, will you spend money upon marketing a name like "A Bit On The Side" or like Arran Mustards will you push the natural goodness of the product which in itself is a difficult message to deliver.

Take a walk through your supermarket and then your nearest 'deli supermarket' and compare the market dot com, do it with just enough booze in you to make you a little bit Homer Simpson and then see what you think is in the jar on the shelf without touching it... keep notes just incase your a wee bit worse off than you thought. Try it again sober, you'll then understand your market...

Whenever I think of Mustard I always think of that classic Alan Partridge episode where he meets the heiress of the Coleman's dynasty...

...anyway, I digress. It all depends what you want to do with the product in my opinion. If you just want to hawk it around at farmers markets, local shops etc then go for something cutesy, wholesome with heritage such as Mike's Marvellous Mustard or Dave's Delicious Dijon. But if you want to make it into a national brand, get supermarkets onboard, really establish it as a recognisable entity, then I'd use something like the clever word play/comedy names mentioned by other posters, as they allow more scope for word of mouth brand exposure.
