As recommended by people on this forum; I've created this thread to generate some ideas for a company name. £50 cash prize for the chosen name, transferred via bank or paypal and a pack of 50 cups delivered to your door.

Some background:

The company is going to sell one product; a red party cup. These cups are massive in America, they can be found in almost every house party. I want to introduce them to the UK.

Target market is mainly university students, 18-30 years old.

The product:

Good luck!

I really am struggling to find the BENEFITS of having a red cup over a cheap white one available for pennies in every supermarket in the land.

If it's being sold primarily to students, by the third drink they wouldn't notice if it was green with purple stripes and by the 10th drink they are so sloshed they are more likely to pour the drink in their ear, let alone care what colour the plastic cup is.

I'm not surprised it is "massive in America" when it is the very epitome of poor taste that invented things like the Hot Dog.

Thinking a little broader, you may start with the red plastic cups but may want to also eventually go into other party items, you could call it Plastic Partyware.

or Cupaware.

Little Red Party Cups.

Party Cups.

I am amazed this is still 'alive after:

"You suggest you are going to introduce them to the UK but they are already available in the UK. From lots of places and plenty on Amazon. What's your USP? It will help the creative process."

I'm surprised people are devoting any time at all in thinking up a name for the product and the company.

Hold on a minute . . . . . just thought of some:

"Got no blue/green/yellow cups cup"

"Dead Duck Idea for a Cups Business Ltd"
"Should have put on my thinking head Ltd"
"I'm going to make only ten quid this year Ltd"
"I'll copy others that sell red cups Ltd"

This message is brought to you by Kernowman's Den:

Sorry, I'm out . . . . . . .

The key is your target market, right? Students. No fancy-shmancy name is going to work with them. It will be all about image.

You could take advantage of the colour: red. Before Orange launched in Britain, for example, they placed billboards all over the country, and even had an orange hot-air balloon flying around (until it caught fire! - a brighter orange!). No one had a clue what the company was about until they launched, and then the name stuck.

But for students, I would suggest a focus on independence, doing things their way, something that swaggers, boasts, is rebellious. It needs to be an identity, not a product (because the product is hardly unique). It also needs to be short and sharp.

So, my suggestions would be:

- Big Red
- Red Rebel
- Red Rock
- Red Raw
- Party Red
- Extreme Red
- Red Desire
- DesiRED
- Reddy

For a marketing angle, I'd come up with some short video clips of students using the cups for strange and creative and unexpected purposes. Offer a prize to customers who come up with the most creative use of your cups (maybe even photos where they are wearing only cups - "I'm Reddy" or "I'm Extreme" or "I'm Raw" or "Desire me" or whatever). You just know that students will come up with some outrageous ideas, but it's all publicity that you can channel into that rebellious image.

And to those who say there's no market because such a product is widely available already, forget the product! It's all about brand image. The challenge is how to create a brand without spending a fortune - but, for the student market, I reckon it can be done.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I've made a ranking system in excel. The main contenders at the moment are:

The Red Cup Corporation

The Red Cup Company

Who gives a cup

The two largest producers in America are called "Solo Cup Corportation" and "Dart Container Corporation".

I'm thinking I need something a little shorter. My brother came up with "Epic Cups".

The prize will be awarded when the domain name is registered. Could be as soon as a week or as long as a month or two.

Anyway keep them coming, and let me know what you like and don't like. :)
