I rank well in Google and Yahoo but not on bing. What are the factors that needs to be considered to get higher rankings on bing?

Don't bother with Bing!

Around 85% of organic searches are via Google, with less than 10% each from Yahoo and Bing.

OK, so some people say that you can't discount any leads if you're keen to be seen, but the fact remains Bing is the home page of people not savvy enough to know how to change their ISP home page. Would you want this kind of traffic?

ps - One of my clients is page 1 google, page 1 yahoo and page 17 bing. They just have a different way of ranking.
pps - I asked this question myself on Monday in this forum

Hi

Does anyone have any tips for search engine rankings and how long does it take to be listed at a good level once you have submitted meta tags etc????

So traffic from Bing is worthless? That seems a bit of a strange view point to me.

My point exactly how can you say that bing traffic is worthless ??

If it generated 10% of traffic its better than none at all , the person stated google generates 85% however as far as i read its nearer 70% but thats an argument i aint getting into as noone will have exact figures however its crazy to say bing is worthless when its clear many people do use it !

No, I didn't mean it is totally worthless, as I said, people looking for leads from any source would be grateful if they are wanting to make money on the internet.

To clarify perhaps I should add the immortal words "In my opinion"
a) Bing is primiarily US searches, when you go to Google, it is defaulted to .co.uk as it Yahoo. Bing defaults to .com and you have to manually select .co.uk
b) Bing is installed as a MSN home page - and often as an ISP providor's home page. I don't care what others think but "in my opinion" people who don't know how to manually re set their home page to their favourites, let alone create a bookmark, are worthless *in my opinion* traffic to attract to your site to take cash off them. [source: observing my mother and father and brothers surf the net plus countless colleagues in the office]

Any e-commerce site requires relevant, targeted traffic, not just hits that are aimless from a click happy user unaware of Google's reach.

well my experience of Bing is that the bounce rate is a lot lower and the conversion greater.

They also have a much larger presence in the US and other parts of the world.

so if you are selling to an intenational market.

Ignore them at your peril.:)

I take your point about an international market, I guess I only had UK market in mind.

Yes, and I see conversion rates higher with Bing myself with one client, but that's purely because they are specifically searching for the brand name / website, and so are in a buying mode already.

For UK organic search I think it's not worth the time trying to optimise specifically for Bing, when work carried out for Google would reap sooner and larger benefits.

No but you did strongly imply that Bing users are not very "Savvy" and their traffic was not worth bothering about!

Some of us to actually do CHOOSE to use Bing (and others) occasionally - especially when the front page of a Google search returns a lot of clearly-manipulated, irrelevant results.

And yes I do no how to change my homepage from the dafault ISP one!
