Mensa

Hey,

Anyone here a member of mensa, if so whats your IQ?

I just did a home test thing which im about to send off, was easy answered all the questions i may have gotten like 2 wrong though. Hopefully become a member so i can stick it on my CV :D

Hey,

Yeh you have to do a supervised test, the home test is just a test to roughly show your iq, so you can see if its worth taking the supervised test.

@asonda: maybe its easy for me, might not be easy for everyone else :D

Possibly not, but I can get through the packs pretty easily when I bother trying...

How do we get access to the home test?

I'm too daft - they tested me at school when I was 7 and it was only 146, did a DIY test at 25 and slipped to 144 - daren't do one now I am 40 'cos a few more brain cells have probably packed up since last test :)

Supposedly your IQ doesnt change. There are a few different IQ tests, mensa has 2 types, so chances are the test types changed which affects your IQ, which is why they give IQ ranges instead of a number.

You can get the home test from http://www.mensa.org.uk/mensa-test/, they send it out free with a pre-paid envelope so you can send it back free, but they charge £9.95 (ripoff) to mark it and send back your results.

Sweet! I'll be trying that in the near future, when I get a bit of free time!

Well I suppose they have to make money somewhere but a tenner isn't too bad!

When I was at Secondary School, We did a huge IQ test. We had to sit there, listen to an audio recording, and had a set amount of time for each section, things such as algebra, rotating complex 3d models, obscure questions, Many of my friends came out saying how hard they thought it was, and that they didn't hardly manage to finish each section....

I got the best result :D

When you send back the unsupervised test and if you're above the 2% threshold they will send you a list of dates and locations local to you in order to do the supervised test.

For anyone who wants to get into Mensa badly enough, I will, for a fee, sit the test for you, as long as you also pay for the fake identification ;)

As an after-thought, it's always very surprising, the number of people on near-anonymous forums who have Mensa-level IQs seeing as though it's only the top 2% of the population... :D

I did the test online once a few years ago and was told that I might be in with a chance of getting in. At that stage I found out that I had to pay for it!!!

So mensa checked my IQ and told me that they think I'm quite clever, and then they wanted me to pay for something with no obvious benefits. An offer I'd be dumb to accept surely??!?

More seriously, I don't think intelligence is static. There are a number of things that can influence intelligence like your environment and such like. There are also different types of intelligence, for example, fluid and crystallized intelligence. If memory serves, one increases with age and the other decreases (can't remember which is which though).

to quote Groucho " I wouln't join any club that would have me as a member "

If you think being in mensa signifies intelligence you must be dim.;)

Look at all the great creators and inventors can't think of one who was in mensa ,except "Clive C5 Sinclair" :D

Obviously the environment e.g. through good teaching, good family helps a person grow but if it aint there to start with it just aint there

Some people can do some things, other people can't, no matter how hard they try. I do think though that very few people actually fully utilise their potential.

In the end, all getting in to Mensa means is that you are good at IQ tests. However, there is a certain correlation with general intelligence ;)
