So it's a managed VPS dedicated server that I'm using.
The problems with it being slow are because I haven't sorted all of the CDN settings yet for fear of breaking the site
A VPS isn’t a dedicated server. Two different things. You are on a shared server. You don’t need a CDN. In fact a CDN will often slow things down. Your site is slow because of Elementor, Woo and all the plugins you have installed.

But your problem is people will still see your site as being no different to a broker site. You don’t have time to educate people, when they search on Google they will just use the map pack or a ppc advert. This means you need to dominate the maps packs county wide, pay more for adverts and rank above all the brokers. Which will cost you far more than your current budget.

There are plenty of ways to make this work but not with your current website. Upgrade to business membership and get a website review.

Or use the services of a marketing company and let them fix the site.

£42k a year isn't much for a decent marketer in the UK. My solution was to hire someone in Kosovo.

Their English can be absolutely perfect and a good marketer can be hired for £15k per year. For that, I'd expect 5 - 10 years experience, motivated, dynamic and smart and experience of working for companies in Europe. On top of that, you'd need to pay £6k in outsourcing fees. i.e. Hire them through a third party. The reason is to set up an entity in Kosovo, you'd need to pay £10k setup fees plus office fees etc... but a third party can handle all of that for £6k p.a. So £21k all-in.

That would leave £20k in marketing fees and you'd have to spend £1k on flying over there and / or flying them over to the UK.

I hired someone with significantly less experience just to do a few things on a contract basis for a few months and she did a good job. This is her: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/paul...S5?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop

If you want to talk to the outsourcing firm who sorted it all out for me, I can get you in touch. They're not an outsourcing agency per se, rather they're an MSP which happens to have an office in Kosovo and are happy to do a deal.

That would be my personal choice.

Otherwise, my second choice would be a part-timer. A friend hired someone from Mumsnet. She wanted to spend time with her family but at the same time work a few days each week. That again can reduce the price so you get the benefit of someone working for you, invested in your business while simultaneously having another £20k left over for marketing budget.

Personally, my third choice would be an agency. Agencies can be great but again, my personal preference is generally an employee first because I like them to get to know my business, can take them to customers etc...

@Paul FilmMaker - the problem is @Instabus doesn't need an employee yet. They need to sort out a whole load of marketing issues first. Once the marketing plan is in place they will then know what marketing skills are required.

@fixicx is completely right about all the marketing that is required.

When you’re in a situation where multiple areas of marketing need to be addressed and professionally handled, you really do need a marketing agency.

Bit biased as I own a marketing agency, but the reality is an agency can provide you with a solid foundation from the budget you have.

An agency can provide a more objective viewpoint and better insights into what strategies will work best for your specific market.

Then you can hire a marketing assistant to maintain the marketing activities as a marketing agency can also provide you with direction.

That’s if you find a really good marketing assistant. Otherwise, you’ll need to invest in an experienced marketing specialist.

Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide what will work best for your business.

    Good luck!

Well, when it comes to marketing, many projects struggle with that because coming up with a good strategy is actually a challenge. Don't you think it would be better to contact specialists for that? I mean, there are many of them like solus that can help you take your project to a new level and attract targeted traffic, so I believe it's worth thinking about. It'll be way more effective than dealing with everything yourself anyway, so I think it's worth considering for sure if you want to boost your business

I think the alternatives are realistically:

    1. Hire someone in a cheap location (my suggestion was Kosovo because that's where I have experience).
    2. Hire a part-timer in the UK.
    3. Marketing agency.

I suspect it'll come down to a marketing agency. And who did your website? I really like it!
