mannequin advise

Looking into investing in a mannequin/s for the purpose of taking images of clothing products for our website (Would not be used for display, shop etc). It would be used for shirts, jackets, trousers, shorts overalls etc.
After having a quick google i was suprised at how much they were.
So the ? is what do people recommend who have purchased before.
 
Use live models, would be my recommendation.

Real people create an emotional proximity that a shop-dummy cannot.

Kin Cattrall was a mannequin once, managed to combine the best of a real model and the traditional mannequin. Just something for your consideration.

When that picture was taken it was tuned to an open Eb, so no open G string there....

If you buy a mannequin because it's cheaper than live models, choose a matt flesh-toned mannequin. Avoid shiny white or black mannequins because they don't photograph well. The light bounces off them. There are tutorials on line for how to use 'ghost' mannequins. Unless you have the right lighting you may find yourself disappointed with results. Do some tests shots first on your 'set' and check if they're good enough for your store before investing in the amateur route.

Shirts and jackets are easy because you can just use those hanging plastic body parts with no heads but trousers and shorts are a nightmare to photograph on a mannequin.

I think those whole body mannequins are really ugly and not good for displaying clothes. We use real live models and it's so much better as you can check the fit and the way the clothes hang at the same time.

You should be able to get some budding models or actors for free in exchange for the job on their CV and the photos for their portfolios.
