Making money from blogs? how easy

I could do with a small extra income (an extra £100 a month) and I have a very good idea for a blog. It will be very active and I imagine it will do well on the search engines. I have the technical expertise to do it.

How easy would it be to make this kind of money from a blog? I will be buying a doman and hosting for it so I have complete control over the content. I also realise it will take a while and won't be an over night thing.

Is it worth bothering with or a complete waste of time?

Surprised of such a question from you but still.... (not meaning anything bad)

Assuming you can rank well on search engines then it will depend on the topic of the blog and the size of the market for it. Get a top ranked blog on the topic of iPads and you can easily make £100 a month and a hell of a lot more. Get the same ranking for the nocturnal activities of the lesser spotted liver fluke of western nigeria and you will probably be struggling

Thanks its basically a consumer blog with reviews and special offers. It will be time consuming as I will need to make sure there are no errors in it but I spend all my time writing reviews and offering advice (mainly on other forums) I thought I may as well try and make a bit out of it.

I suppose all I have to loose is about £25 for hosting and the domain and a lot of time. My original idea was to focus it on my localaility but then that reduces the the target audience too much.

Don't discount this, I have a few 'local' sites that do well through adsense and especially CPA.

I will probably focus on both, specialise on a localish area but also feature national stuff as well. My blog will be aimed at the under 21-30 age group but will have content relevant to all ages.

I will be tips and great deals, such as how I am staying in London for one night inc all travel for less than £24.

There is a lot of competition in this area but I am sure with some clever SEO I can at least get a tiny share of the visitors. It is just about time to started getting into this dotcom lark. I basically have a degree in it although the internet was in a very different era back then.

Thanks I at least have some motivation to start this project off now. It will be updated daily. This will be no get rich quick scheme and I am no rush for it to start making money so I can take my time to do everything properly and like you say experiment.
