For domestic service type businesses (cleaners, tradespeople etc) what type of responses have you had with local newspapers compared to say flyers and for over how long a period of time did you advertise?

Many thanks!

This will vary vastly dependent of the trade your in, I used to build computers and found for every 10k flyers in the local free paper I go 1 or 2 orders a week based on a 4 week drop.. but don't forget a computer is an expensive item so may work a lot better with other items or services.. hope this helps.. al you can get luck and pick up a regular customer..

I repair computers and get quite a few enquiries via the Salisbury Journal, I advertise with them every week and have been doing so for a few yrs now.

Just out of curiosity, how much do you roughly pay to advertise in a local paper?

Thing is with sort of advertising, is it needs to be regular, not just a one off, and normally in the classifieds, even if every other week etc.

Hope that helps

Whatever you decide, make sure you see it through as Kate advises. Alot of people expect instant results with advertising in papers and ad's often require a bedding period most people do not budget for.
