Leaflets are they still worth doing?

Can I ask if anyone has recently done a door to door leaflet campaign? I have recently set up a Will Writing business and am considering direct marketing, does anyone know what sort of response rate you should expect these days and if it is still worth doing?

For will writing the response will be virtually zero.

We needed a will sorting about a year ago. We googled for providers, called the chap on the phone and had a new will delivered a week later. Have you got a website? Does it rank locally (and nationally)? If not then you need to advertise. Adwords can be quite lucrative. Or you could try saga magazine.

I would not recommend Will Writing leaflets dropping, if you did decide to do this then I presume you would be focussing on sheltered housing etc and not just random houses, appreciate its not always older folk who write wills but surely up to the age of 50 most folk don't give it any consideration, Magazines would be a better shout

First do your research to identify who your target market is.
Then decide the best way to reach them.

Who are the people most likely to use your will writing service?
Is it busy working people between the ages of 40-60?
Are they the sort of people who would respond to a leaflet?

If not, is there a better way?
Eg. an advert in local magazines as mentioned above or one in the Metro they read on their morning commute to work?

Remember to include an incentive on your leaflet / advert, maybe a small discount if they use your service, say, before the end of January. Something to make them act, not just read your advert then forget about it.

Then when you have your first batch of customers, ask them to refer a friend for your second batch as referrals are the best form of advertising you can have.

Good luck.

Leafleting does work but it needs to be the right business and targeted at the right population.

We do Royal Mail which very roughly, works out at about £1000 for 10,000 houses including artwork, printing, delivery etc. Essentially this is the total cost.

Magazines are less successful for us and we dropped them from our advertising mix. We may go back to smaller adverts but I am not yet convinced.

I have just started a Will Writing business not sure if leaflets are suitable for this business. What businesses do leaflets work for?

I think this is pretty steep. You're paying the most expensive method. Sure royal mail are likely to get the highest deliver rate but you'll find that for the same cos you could get a private company who promises to drop 20,000 leaflets with a 20% loss (so a end total of £16,000 drops)
