Leaflet Drops

I have seen many posts on here about leaflet drops but all seem to be prodominantly b2b based.

I am in the process of setting up a website selling photos to canvas and photos to acrylic which most of you have probaley seen. Also very attractive looking cityscapes, landscape pictures etc.

The prices I am selling these at are very cheap and much more competitve other people in my area are selling them at.

In your opinion if I had produced 10000 leaflets and dropped them all in the local area at evenings and weekends would the response be.

I have read in previous posts that people chuck leaflets in the post etc (which i usually do). But if the leaflet looks good and all people love photos do you think a response rate would be better than leaflet dropping for example carpet cleaners or window cleaners..

Also if anyone can give me a price for 10000 leaflets including design that would be great

The response to a leaflet depends massively on what is written on the leaflet. You can have text on there explaining what your business does with contact details and receive a response of next to nothing. Or you can have professionally written sales copy which is designed to turn readers into customers and receive a response rate of 4-5%.

Many businesses put a lot of money into good design but totally neglect the part of the leaflet which actually sells the service, then they wonder why their leaflet campaign has been a total waste of money.

With your type of service I think that your wedding photographers may be interested, as they generally send out to have this type of work done on behalf of wedding groups - maybe leaflet Bridal shops, Wedding car hire companies, local nurseries and schools etc....You could even put half a dozen in the business around you - I had a friend who had a photograph of their building and area put on canvas for reception, and their neighbours saw it and had theirs done as well as a Directors gallery set of canvas prints, so you never know!

I know you said you wanted B2C, but have you thought about the physical time it would take to hand deliver 10,000 leaflets - one at a time, through letterboxes....

If you go to a nursery there may be 60 parents - you leave 100 leaflets; they all have photogaphs that THEY have taken and would like putting on canvas - the same with schools etc. Wedding photographers may have their own sources for doing this, but if you show them a sample of your work and your prices are more competitive (and turnaround acceptable) then you may get overflow work there to start with?

It all helps - if you go the leaflet route I pity your poor feet and hands, and as we know a conversion rate of 4 - 5% with good copy is still VERY good; typically I am told that 1% is typical if the wind is right, the copy is brilliant and the person wants the service NOW!

Thank you very much for that advice there is some good points you made there.

The reason I was thinking that the leaflet drop could prevail more is the work people have seen they have all wanted to know how much and where to get them from because everyone loves pictures of there beloved cats, kids etc etc.

I disagree with Gavin. Marketing is not based on fluke. There are techniques that's proven to work! The last campaign that me and Steve Gibson did for an property maintenance company converted incredibly well, they did not have enough phones to take their enquiries! Needless to say, they are still a very loyal client after 3 years since hiring us to design and market for them.

If you have determined who your target market is, establish their needs, have a good product that meets their needs pitched at the right price, they will buy. Establish what your UPS is and work from there.

Formulate a good sales copy before you start the design process. Do not overspend in places that does not require it.

Before you ever send a leaflet or any sales literature for that matter first decide on your offer.

Plan out what you will say and more importantly:

• What is your offer to grab attention - i.e first canvas free. This might shock you but if you havea 'back end' i.e extra sales teh it can be a cheap way to acquire customers.
• How will ypou follow up?
• What else and how often will people purchase?

The biggest mistake you can make is to run off and pat for a graphically plesing leflet that will get you 0 response. Spen more time on the strategy raher than the design.
