Hi all, im confident with using wordpress but im alien with joomla, i have not been through any learning curve. Would wordpress do a good job of selling multiple items online? What payment options are there for wordpress apart from paypal?

Wordpress is a great option if you don't have too many items, just like when using it as a CMS it's great as long as you don't have too many pages.

There are ecommerce plugins that can put tons of payment options at your fingertips - it's very mature indeed.

Of course the other option is to create a social commerce site using Facebook + Payvement and eliminate the need for a self-hosted site completely ;)

Thanks good tip, but what about SEO for marketing? is it even worth it or is facebook business really that good?

You can build links to any destination URL, so the choice of platform really isn't a factor. Product descriptions are the same either way, so the on-page is about the same as well.

The only advantage is that about a billion people are already on Facebook spending hour after hour and don't always want to leave there to do what needs done.

Would suggest Wordpress over Joomla if your needs are simple and you don't need complex shipping/tax settings.

We have setup numerous wordpress and joomla ecommerce. Look around and find out your exact needs but chances are a Wordpress ecommerce site would probably suit you just fine.

If you want to sell online it may be best to go for a platform that's been designed and built from the ground up for that purpose. WordPress is really a blog platform and Joomla is a web CMS.

You should investigate something like OpenCart (http://www.opencart.com) as everything about it is designed to sell products online.

There are a few others here: http://www.antropy.co.uk/blog/shopping-cart-review/

I agree. I wouldn't use Wordpress or Joomla as nether are really shopping carts at heart. OpenCart would be a good option for you and would save you a lot of messing around as you have a working shop from the second it's installed. If you can install Wordpress, then you'll have no trouble installing OpenCart.
