I’m not quite sure what you are asking.

Are you looking for someone to help get your website ranking for local searches?

If this is the case a Google Business Profile may give you a better ROI.

There are many who can help with this but you will need to make some major changes to the site. It’s not very good for both SEO and lead generation.

Yes, SEO is very important to rank high, or rank at all in search results.

As @fisicx suggested, start with setting up your google business profile.

Then connect your website to google search console and index it (in case you haven’t already)

Use a search engine to identity your top 3 (or 5) local competitors.

Do a quick competitor analysis, try and understand their site structure, what they called their services, what keywords are in their titles, headings and subheadings, what type of content do they have on their website etc, understand their internal link structure and website navigation, use chrome/safari developer tools to see what alt text they’re using in their pictures etc etc.

With that said, all the above are very hard to do unless you have a basic grasp of SEO, so start with learning about SEO, be up to date as possible with whatever training material you’re using as SEO changes from year to year, for example a recommendation from 2016 will definitely be outdated today, and once you’ve done that, you can begin to have a better idea on what’s needed on your website.

Youtube is a very good resource to learn SEO, if you prefer articles, most SEO services websites such as AHREF, MOZ, SemRush, Backlinko and Search Engine Journal have a vast (and free) educational/training section.

Good luck.

Ahh yes it is important and very much so. But this subject is so deep. So what are you going to do under the name of SEO? Writing content alone is not enough, being visible and having references are very important but this is also very expensive and takes time. The worst part is that those who still manipulate can get the better of you.

Hi Yasmeen

I recently paid £250 to a guy to boost my website ranking. Unfortunately I got ripped. Many Seo technicians just promised much and fail to deliver. Is there a way of avoiding being stung twice?
We are a specialist Bicycle wheels company and would like the website to be position on Google page among the top uk bicycle wheel dealers like these Strada Wheels , Hunt wheels, DCR wheels & Bike Wheels Direct.

I appreciate your kind comments.

Thanks

Add at least one zero to the money you paid. It’s likely to take years and a huge amount of work to rank above all your long established competitors.

Start by upgrading your membership here and getting a website review. I’ve looked at your site and it’s not good.

Did you check this website?
Yes. It’s not good. A huge list of usability and SEO issues along with poor conversion signals.

Let me guess - you went with the company that made the biggest promises and/or offered the lowest price?

Rookie error - hopefully a (relatively inexpensive) lesson learned

What was the SEO guy's promise? If your website is relatively new, it will take time to rank among the big fish, and you will need to invest in content creation and backlinks.
Beating established websites in the bicycle niche in the UK is possible but impossible with £250

Before you even pay a penny for SEO services you need to make sure that your website has a solid SEO foundation. In other words the website itself has to be SEO friendly.

Sadly MOST websites don't meet Google's expectations for SEO, and MOST web designers (even 'Top' award-winning ones) are failing their customers by providing poor sites that fail Google performance tests.

We provide free website audits that look at 70+ key metrics, so if that's something you're interested in we can show you exactly what areas your website is failing in and which ones you need to target for the biggest SEO impact.

@John Martin - thought I’d give your review a go so googled your business name. Which one of the many Olympus marketing companies are you?

I believe if you click the drop-down arrow under 'Business Listing" on my side profile, there is a link to my website. If not, let me know.

By the way I had a look at your site the other day and I have to say, there's some very good advice on there. From a technical point of view though, there are a few issues that you could do with sorting out to make it more SEO friendly. No where near as bad as some that I've seen though.

Well there you go. After umpteen years on UKBF I never knew that was there. I've now found your site.

As an aside, that dropdown only works on desktop. Anyone using a phone won't be able to find your (or anyone elses) site.

And the site you looked at is really just a placeholder. It's no longer the focus of my attention, I've discovered far more lucrative ways of making money than building websites.

What didn't they achieve that they agreed to?

Whilst there are many scally's out there, many of the issues come from site owners either not knowing about what they want or expecting too much for a limited budget!

I am actually testing a SEO company at the moment and challenged them to get my website (a SEO site!) on either p1 or 2 of Google. For the business name, they have done this and they are working on other phrases - to me, they are proving themselves and will work on other sites of mine. Who knows, I might even use them in a SEO company..............

Maybe I am misunderstanding, but why would searching for the business name not get a result on page 1, even without SEO? Unless there are multiple businesses going by the same name?

Hi Paul, the quote above 'begs the question': why would you need a SEO company to help you if you have a SEO site yourself? Wouldn't they be your competitors?

I'm sure my question is naive and there is a very logical explanation. I'm an SEO virgin so I don't know.

By looking at their site, how can you tell about their SEO quality?

Genuine question.

You can tell a lot about the SEO quality of the site by using tools. A good start is Google page speed insights, which is free to use. Just type in your URL and in a few seconds it will highlight most of the main issues on your site as far as Google are concerned.

If you want a more in depth analysis, we offer a free website audit report which tracks 70+ key metrics. Some of the data comes from the page speed tool but there's a whole lot more as well. If this is something you are interested in, visit my site and request a free audit report.

The domain name is extremely descriptive of the service.

I don't (or didn't!). I always ask SEO companies how well they list their own business and, in almost all cases, for SEO related searches they tend to be crap. Any SEO company that can get a new SEO site (for various words and phrases) up the charts can't be that bad!

Google treats mobile as the priority. That’s the one you need to look at.

That's much better than most, so you're already ahead of the masses.

I manage to get 100% across the board on desktop, and mobile is mostly 100% except performance which is usually about 97%. I could probably get it to 100% but you have to draw the line somewhere.

On one of main websites I can only get mobile to about 60% but desktop is 97%.

The issue is the header in Elementor - I must move from it.

Stop using Elementor. If you really need a page builder research the alternatives. Most are much better. We have spoken about this after consuming beer so you have probably forgotten.
