I have and have always had, Apple phones but wouldn't consider myself a "fanboy" and am considering a complete change for my next phone.

Everyone ridicules the operating systems and lack of freedom but can anyone explain to me what it doesn't do that other phones do?

Not the developer crap either, I've not got the time for that stuff, just the things that average joe may want to do with a phone that an iPhone can't.

pop into Vodafone and compare the iPhone camera against a Nokia Lumia 1020 41MP camera. there's no comparison. also the Lumia comes with a free talking satnav that tells you each turn to make and works offline as you can download all the maps for free. also you can edit Office documents and play Xbox games. almost forgot the free music streaming service - Nokia Music. also there's wireless charging and NFC. the Lumia 1020 is free on a £25 per month contract. (no I don't work for Nokia or Microsoft or Vodafone).

Hmmm. Some interesting features there. It wasn't long ago that Nokia seemed dead in the water so I'm surprised at how good that phone sounds

I get the iPhone; it's a good, well designed phone and it integrates perfectly with other Mac stuff - it's also rather beautiful.

What I don't get is the need to buy a new one everytime they come out when the OS is the same in all.

People are stupid - it's a sanskrit mantra (well, tbh I bet it's close enough)! Then again apple did appear to try a sneaky trick with ios7, where the iphone 4 would just be god awful at running it. I have to say that's been changed now so that's pleasant, though it did coincide with an android update which was apparently engineered to be better for lower end devices.

the Nokia Lumia HERE Drive also tells you which lane you need to be in (which I find very useful when driving around London), what the current speed limit is and you can set it to beep if you exceed the speed limit. you can also download maps from other European countries if you are planning to drive overseas. the database is very good, you can just enter a destination such as Portsmouth Travelodge and it will take you straight there. also the My Commute facility uses real-time traffic information to warn of delays and can suggest alternative routes.

Only by the brainwashed cult followers.
Sure the iPhone is a decent product, but I wouldn't call in the "king"

With due respect, I would definitely like to know the name of any other mobile phone brand that is considered to be above Apple or a brand that anybody aspires to buy (according to the present market trends). I mean, we can not deny the fact that I-phone is known to be the ultimate choice or I would rather say "wish" (as it's costly for any middle or upper middle class buyer) for any mobile purchaser.

Love my Samsung Galaxy Note 2. The S-Pen apps are especially handy.

Personally seeing a lot of past iphone owners swap to Android at the moment due to various reasons. Don't know anyone personally who aspires to own an iphone either. (iPad is a different matter though.)

It's available on both ios and android, but I love Google Now. It is a very handy feature, just a shame it doesn't do quite as much here as it does in the US.

I am now firmly an Android fan, maybe even a Samsung Galaxy fan seeing as I have the Note 2, Tab 3, and want the Note 10.1in tablet when I replace my Tab 3. This will not be for a while though.

People love bashing the iPhone and it does come in to unfair criticism considering huge flaws (e.g. gaping security issues) are overlooked with Android.

I have both and there's nothing like the integration between my phone, tablet and computer. I can make reminders, calendar alerts and documents sync across all effortlessly. Getting my W8 laptop, nexus tab and android phone to sing in harmony only results in earache!

There are benefits to the freedom Android give (I love the Nova launcher and the fact that I have never had to scroll away from my 49 icon home screen, but for every benefit and advantage of Android, there are probably a couple of disadvantages.
I remember trying to download iOS 7 and Apple's servers taking a bashing - the discontent on Twitter amongst those who couldn't upgrade within hours was unbearable. How many Android users are still waiting for KitKat??

With this in mind, I can see Android winning the battle, as they have key advantages in price and on potential for innovation. Apple can only upgrade their devices once a year as it stands, whereas Android has numerous organisations releasing multiple handsets/form factors during that annual cycle.

I personally don't even waste my time with the incessant articles on future iPhones as they're just made by bored designers and not a single 'prototype' headlined as the new iPhone has ever actually been correct.

I love how the Apple Fanboys of this world get excited at this news. The phone OS is back in the Iron Age! I got the Note 2 when it first came out (still have it as second phone) and its 5.5, the improved Note 3 is 5.7 and even the original one was 5.3. There are many others in the "phablet" category with big screens (HTC One max, Lumia 1520, Sony Xperia Z Ultra etc.

People say this but never give a reason for it.

What does Android do that iOs doesn't? I don't mean nay of the developer stuff, things that your everyday average Joe would be able to do straight from the box.

You are mixing eco systems there though, try W8.1 Laptop + W8.1 Phone + W8.1 Tablet or Chomebook + Nexus + Android Phone

    That can work seamlessly.
