There are a huge number of businesses trying to do what Ebay does, or at least elements of it. They do not succeed as to do so would take a phenomenal amount of funding.

It'd take a huge effort to offer anything like the choice or number of buyers or sellers unfortunately.

one of the 1,56032569,2109329502 websites trying to beat ebay but missing the point of why Ebay is still dominant and why it charges so much.

Footfall.

Ebay is a global brand, it's on the same level as Google. It even has songs based on its name on YouTube.

It will be beaten one day..but not just yet.

I don't know why people have something against Ioffer, Ioffer is tailored more to Chinese sellers and Asian people but great for sourcing products from China as most sellers ship for free in small quantities via China Post EMS. You can make a seller an offer, barter the price down and have the security of Paypal behind your transaction.

It is quite safe as Paypal holds the money till the buyer gives feedback or three weeks have passed with no bad feedback or anything and if you recieve anything that is fake you just make a charge back (and in most cases keep the item also:D).

There are alot of scammers on there, but just like Ebay all you have to do is take a look at feedback and never deal with new sellers or people with less than a few hundred sales. Never buy brand name items on Ioffer as they are mostly Chinese fakes unless that is what you are after :D. I source many products on Ioffer and sell them on Ebay, the mark-up is insane. I usually sell items for 3-4 times the ammount I originally pay for them.

The only problem with Ioffer is they don't like Western sellers and they are often banned or the operation of the site goes 'mysteriously' funny where you cant post or your blocked with excuses, but for buying to sell on it is the best.

I've sold on iOffer and it is a good alternative. Obviously, the sales are not as frequent as eBay but a sale's a sale nevertheless. No harm in selling on there along side eBay.

Something to note... iOffer will limit you from selling after you've made a couple of sales, just until you get positive feedback from your buyers. A simple system in place to weed out the fraudulent sellers.

Give it a go, you have nothing to lose and any victory over eBay, however small, is always a bonus!

Ive just had a gander, its addictive !!

As you said, most of the sellers are from China, and they all claim to sell the real thing !! if you tried to list half the stuff on Ebay the VERO programme would restrict you and remove them from sale.

Back to ioffer to see what I can buy !!

No I havent or any of the million and one ebay clones. Why? Because as a buyer I can never find what I want, whatever you look for on ebay someone is selling. As a seller I know for a fact less eyeballs will see my item and therefore wont get as many bids and sell the item for less.

People ***** about ebay, its the biggest, by far, get over it and deal with it.

Ludicrous!

I have sold a few items on www.castoff.net , main benefit is the ability to talk to people and not have to spend ages shouting at an automated system.
They are working on an updated version that will allow sellers to have shops.

I also tried Ebid but was a waste of time.

As already said ebay is too big to be beaten in what it does. For buyers the product they are after is more than likely to be listed at an extremely competitive price and for sellers its a platform with millions of buyers. Stupid amount of traffic, can't be beaten imo.

As for the fees I disagree they are expensive, you just need to go find the products you are trying to sell cheaper so you can compete.

I've bought some calvin klein boxers from there, and I reckon they're fake but I can't fault them! They're such good quality... So good that everyone i've asked think they're the real thing (perhaps they are?). Normally £15, but I got a pair for less than £3!

Much as I'd love to see eBay knocked off it's perch - they have got well over 95% of teh global auction market and thats a tough hold to break.
