It was one of the ones that was not working This site is the most important site on the internet but the excommunication did leave me with more pressing issues at the time 😀
It took this forum offline earlier. I got a CloudFlare Internal Server Error when trying to access the forum this morning.

There have been a number of DDoS attacks recently with the capacity to cause even more mayhem. This could have been the issue.

Yep. It's incredible how much dependency there is on Cloudflare. We use it for edge protection on our API endpoints and other publicly facing systems. Fortunately, we were able to mitigate it on our side, but it brings the question back on whether critical systems should depend on a single proxy.
I'm not very knowledgeable with this stuff but we depend on it now

This is major infrastructure and none of this should happen

It’s going to happen more and more. The crims are getting better at causing trouble and big tech is getting worse at QA. Whilst things are very resilient nearly all of them have a single point of failure.

    Quite right

Quite right about the single point of failure. I think its something I will be looking into as we depend on Cloudflare and its infra.

Check out the entry at "18 November 2025 at 15:44" on TechRadar (I can't post links, so you'll have to copy and paste)
    techradar.com/pro/live/a-cloudflare-outage-is-taking-down-parts-of-the-internet

An automatically generated config file grew beyond its expected size, which of course will trigger a crash when disk space runs out. This is a bit ridiculous as this sort of thing is catchable in the code. What's even worse is why failover systems didn't kick in, unless the config file is shared.

I'm aware I might be getting too technical here, but my point is, in large enterprise world, these are rookie mistakes. I'm going to keep my eyes peeled on the blog post when Cloudflare posts it.

Loved the fact that the default error message on the Cloudflare site was as good as blaming the server of the clients

I took a screenshot of the message here

“If the problem isn’t resolved in the next few minutes, it’s most likely an issue with the web server you were trying to reach.” :)
