Hey All,
Just asking here for advice. I've been lurking for a while now.
I've taken the plunge after months of research and negotiating with suppliers, trading companies and manufacturers for a good quality item for the right price. I've placed an order which will weigh in about 1050kg and 3.033 Cubic Meters in volume.
I've never imported before and would prefer a freight forwarder to act on my behalf, and arrange everything from the necessary documents for clearing, paying duties and delivering to my door.
At the moment I have FOB from Ningbo, China. My supplier is great with communication and is willing to help and make adjustments if I can find a good freight forwarder quote, they said they will handle all the communication. I've been quoted by shippo for around 320-ish pounds roughly, but that was for another order so the price would be affected as this included duties. Delivery to southampton or felixstow.
Firstly, I want to ask if it's actually even possible for a company to handle the clearing process? Like, is it possible for companies to handle EORI and clearing with customs or can that only be done by customs cleared companies ect, meaning that freight forwarders are crucial in the process. It's my first time so I wouldn't take the risk of doing it by myself, but i've worked so hard so cut down all unnecessary costs to increase my estimated margins and allow room for expanding my product line.
Secondly, please hit me up with some recommendations of freight forwarders. It's a brand spanking new idea, company, everything. It's my own project and I want to have a good relationship with a company that also values and will look after my interests.
£320 didn't sound bad at all. I mean at over 1 ton in weight that would sound great, but I want to browse other quotations from freight forwarders to see what the market is like.
Kind Regards,
Arny.
