There is a craft fair happening next month I have made some snow globes I want to sell. Demand seems to be high. My first time at a craft fair. Thanks
I was in a similar situation and got a Zettle machine. The machine cost and fees were low. The money goes into my business PayPal account. The machines are often sold at discounted rates so look out for offers.

If you are taking low value payments, Zettle may work out a little cheaper per transaction, but they or Sumup will do a similar job.

Zettle machine is currently on offer.

I use sumup. I don't know if it is better or worse than Zettle, but I like it. simple to set up and use. I got mine at toolstation, but it was half price then. it seems cheaper elsewhere at the moment, eg city plumbing at £27 or eBay at £28.

if you do the odd craft fair they are handy things to have- may even allow you to sell more expensive items that people wouldn't necessarily carry the cash for.

With these things like Sum Up is it just a case of just buying a card reader and you are ready to go?

Or do you have to create an account with someone to use it?

If so, where can you find out about the process rather the physical card reader?

You install the app on your phone and connect to the reader via bluetooth. Verification is really simple and once you are linked to your bank account you can start taking payments.

Are they similar to paypal in that you have to have an account with them and any money taken actually goes to their account 1st, which you then transfer out to yours?

Can you pay out to multiple bank accounts?

Goes directly into your nominated bank account. Don’t think you can have multiple accounts. At least not with the sumup air we use.

As a convention trader, i have used various. Sumup air, Sumup 3G, Zettle, Square.

Personally i would recommend zettle over the others even if the fee is slightly higher then competitors.

    • Zettle has little to no lag. Fairly instant from when you power on, connect enter amount and charge. Sumup lags a little, not a deal breaker if you are wanting to go for cheapest option for device and fee. But overall experience you will probably find the zettle worth while for you and your customer not having to wait around especially when it gets busy.
    • Square has the terminal which is pretty good actually, but its a bulky device, as meant to have built in receipt feeder. The square reader is a reader only, so it means no buttons, if customer needs to enter pin, need to give your phone to them to enter.
    • Dont bother with the Sum UP 3G. It sounded great on paper, because it has built in simcard, so you didnt need to already connect to WIFI or use ur phone data where you might get bad signal, as Sumup 3G was meant to work even on edge if signal was bad. It has performed very poor in alot of exhibition locations ive been, and the lag time it takes to process menus and payment is quite long. I always end up bringing 3 devices, first use Sumup 3G, since i dont need to connect to wifi and always whip out my phone. When that fails, i just use the Sumup Air reader, when that fails my last resort is then zettle, which has always been an excellent and reliable backup.
    • Plus side with Sumup you can actually use it abroad, you just need to tell them when you are going and what dates you are trading.
    • All the fee deductions are shown on there UI/dashboard of your account.
Payment goes to your nominated bank 1 or 2 days after. Or you can specify to get payouts weekly or monthly even.

Yes, you create an account on the platform (SumUp, Zettle etc) and either use an app on the phone or you can get 3/4g card readers
