I Must Know About- Are You Being Served?

In the UK did they actually end the original series on Spooner becoming a rock star, or did they just short change the US on how many episodes we received? It's my all time favorite British show and I'm very curious.

Final episode -

"In this final episode of 'Are You Being Served?' it appears as though Mr.Spooner will be sacked. But after a raving review by a local newspaper for his singing performance at the recent concert, a record company offers him a contract.
