Agree with the above. Make sure you sign write the roof as well. Mate of mine has picked up work from people looking out of office windows. And he parks it overnight in different locations.

There is no single solution, eBay, Gumtree, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, forums, thousands of free sites. My wife used to do my marketing, 95% was free sites.

The best advert is your own website with loads of honest truthful feedback.

Parish magazines are brilliant, the locals trust them.

Notice boards in village halls, again the locals trust them.

My google business listing brings in a mountain of trade, it is well configured with a shed load of 5 star reviews. Invest in this as a long term solution, don't be shy in asking for a review everytime you do something, in time it will pay off in a big way.

Signs on your van and park outside Ikea, I always laugh when I see people trying to get massive boxes in a Fiat 500!

If you need any Magnetic Signs we can help :)

If anybody knows the Chiswick roundabout /flyover on the Brewery side side next to the road
A van and man ,man has parked a trailer advertising his business
This would be the best roundabout in the country to do this

Does your local area or town have any facebook groups? Some may allow advertising, so you could post there. You might need to check the group rules though. Some allow advertising on certain days, for example.

Google business profile as mentioned above, you just need to make sure it's verified properly to get the full benefits of it. Keep the listing up to date with posts and information and reply to any reviews.

If students are part of your target audience, try parking your van close to universities or popular student spots.
But this generation might not even see the van parked near their Uni, they will Google. Marketing has obviously changed since the emergence of technology. They are looking and comparing products and services online, sometimes whilst they are in your shop even. So it's all about understanding the modern customer journey.

That is definitely true, however I look back to my UK university experience, and whenever we saw this van parked outside some of our campus buildings we were very curious about it (I'm part of gen Z). It made us want to ask people around if they knew what was up with the van. While younger generations look a lot of stuff online, there are still some "traditional" approaches that still work if done appropriately. For example, if it's a funky looking food van, my fellow gen Z-ers would go there to try out the food.

Another one believing the internet is the answer to everything. As I mentioned earlier, there is no single way to market, use them all. Personally my website, self built, used to cost under £20 a year, with its 350+ of 100% genuine reviews was the best advert for myself.

The wives at my children’s schools used to get my best value jobs through word of mouth etc etc. Stop thinking there is an easy solution and start designing a marketing plan. The only thing I didn’t use was yellow pages, the only paid advertising I used was eBay. Get reviews after each job, carry a notebook and ask after each job for a review to help you out as a new business, I never had anyone refuse.

If you believe the internet is the answer to everything then you wont get your foot in the door

Word of mouth has always been powerful and will always be, now dubbed the word of the keyboard. Advocacy is powerful, which is why business owners should work hard on managing their reputation online nowadays. People are now choosing who they want to give their business to using reviews, it has never been essential to make sure you are managing your reputation online, and those are some of the services we provide at Internet Marketing HQ. And let's bear in mind that, it also depends on what business one is in. Some strategies are not suitable for some types of businesses.

If you do whatever it is you do well, then you won't have to "manage" your reputation.
But no matter how you do what you do, you are not going to please everyone, someone might live some nasty review that will sway one or two or even more would be clients, would you like that? I wouldn't. I wouldn't leave it to chance, I would make sure all the reviews are dealt with, some need to just be responded to, and that makes customers happy. I think it's a big mistake to think like that? It's part of customer service to manage reviews.

No, it isn't. If it's got down to the point of having to respond to a bad review, you've already failed in your customer service.

A customer should not have to resort to a review to get a response out of you.

You could argue it is part of marketing to respond to a review, but it is not customer service.

One of the best ways to advertise your business locally for free is through word-of-mouth. Ask customers, friends, family and colleagues to spread the word about your business. Social media is also a great tool for local advertising. Set up accounts on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn and start engaging with potential customers in your local area. You can also use online advertising such as Google Ads and Facebook Ads to target people in your locality. Additionally, you can join local business groups on Linkedin or other social media platforms and start networking with other businesses in your area. Finally, you can try creating a website or blog to showcase your products and services and promote it locally through local media outlets, newsletters, and other publications. Good luck!

    Hope this helps. :)

The best way to advertise locally for free is to use our app really. Sorry, I may sound biased but I haven't seen anything that does what it does and it does it for free.

    And here is why...

Any business owner, product marketer, sales expert, or manager needs to thoroughly understand the journey the customer takes before setting foot in your shop or clicking on that 'buy now'.

    You want to be able to address questions like;

    1. Do your potential customers know about you?
    2. Can customers find you?
    3. Do customers trust you?
    4. Will customers convert to sales?
    5. Do customers like you?

Local marketing or any marketing at all requires relationship building, and nurturing your clients through every stage of the customer journey and understanding where your product offering fits along the journey will set you up for conversations, conversions, and positive sentiments.

I want to give our app to anyone who may need it, it's a marketing needs assessment that arms business owners and their sales reps with automated insights into a business’s online marketing performance. It's our secret weapon, we call it The Snapshot Report.

The Snapshot Report equips you to:

    • Uncover a business’s hidden marketing needs
    • Identify hot leads with instant notifications
    • Engage prospects in conversation
    • Build trust with transparency
    • Leverage known opportunities
    • Propose strategic solutions
A product for every step of the journey:

What do you or will you include in your digital marketing stack? Perhaps your area of expertise is in social marketing and you want to expand your product mix to include managing online reviews and/or listings. Internet Marketing HQ has a product for every step of the customer journey.

This is powerful stuff guys! Get this right!

Great tips Amy, just wanted to let you know all of what you have just said is wrapped up in our business app. Please refer to my post below :) By the way, Forums are a great way too, and the UK Business Forums is one great one, and I say this, genuinely, not to patronise anyone.
