Just seen a shocking report on the BBC News site about the sorts of data people store on their mobile phones, including:
Personal:
16% - Bank account details
24% - PIN numbers/passwords
11% - Social security/tax details
10% - Store credit card information
Business:
77% - Work-related names/addresses
30% - Use mobile as a work diary
17% - Work-related documents
23% - Customers' information
As you can see some of this could be used for identity theft if the phone is stolen or lost.
They are suggesting you make use of the security features available on your phone to cut down the risk that this can happen.
