If your income depends on Google search traffic, then you're likely doing things to get more traffic, like publishing new pages on your site, blog posts, etc.

The question is simply to find out how frequently you're publishing new stuff on your site....

I haven't published anything on one site for about 3 years and it still ranks well and generates decent traffic most of which converts.

I run a few sites for clients as well as my own and, consequently, publish a lot of content.

Admittedly, I am guilty of adding content for content's sake -which chimes with Ian's comment about much of it being a waste a time of money.

Sure, there are arguments for doing it properly but, just like advertising, links, social media, etc - only a small volume of it can actually be effective.

From my own experience I can tell that it's not about quantity, it's about quality. For example, you can publish updates twice a week and those content pieces will work great as long as they bring value and your followers/subscribers learn something new and useful from whatever you share.

However, it's extremely important to have a schedule and content plan. A little tip from me: before building that schedule LEARN your audience:
1. When and at what time they engage with your content;
2. What content they engage with the most;
3. What other accounts and content they engage with (that will help you to understand what they're interested in).

And of course, don't forget to stay in loop by monitoring the latest trends that are relevant to your industry, create new content around those trends - that's a great way to attract new followers.

Cheers!

I think that it all depends on the topic of your website or blog. There are topics for which many people have interest, so they will visit frequently your site. There are also topics that might be treated sort of “outdated”. In this case, whatever you do, people would just not come to your page
